The responses to the original poster of this thread reference an old version of Avast. Avast 2014 (the latest version) has a completely different interface, and no longer gives users control over popups. For example, now every time you boot your computer, you get a popup about FaceBook. . . which I don't use and don't want. . . but there is no way to turn it (or any other popup) off. If I can find a place to download a 2013 version, I'm going to uninstall Avast 2014, put the previous version back, and disallow automatic program updates.
