Avast brings internet to a crawl.
« on: March 11, 2013, 09:32:54 AM »
Over the last year now its gotten worse and worse. With this new v8 release its effectivly HALFED my internet download speeds

Here is a speedtest with Avast turned on http://www.speedtest.net/result/2565363658.png

And here is one with it disabled http://www.speedtest.net/result/2565368269.png

The maximum I can get in my area is a 4mb line, but with avast running it reduces that to LESS than a 2mb line. so result is me turning off avast the majority of the time because it makes using the internet a frustrating experience.

Any solution to this?

Run the uninstaller for any AV's you used prior to avast from here to remove remanents: http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/
1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=117113.0
2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions..!!)
3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot

Took me better part of a hour, but its still exactly the same. http://www.speedtest.net/result/2565873254.png

If I disable avast I get in the 3mbps+ range. Is it just me experiencing this? Noticed it first on 6 but it was a small difference, so let it slide. With 7 is was noticeable, but 8 is abysmal

What other security software are you running?  There may be a conflict with Avast.
AMD A6-5350M APU with Radeon HD Graphics, 8.0GB RAM, Win7 Pro SP1 64bit, IE11
i7-3610QM 2.3GHZ, 8.0GB Ram,  Nvidia GeForce GT 630M 2GB, Win7 Pro SP1 64bit, IE 11
Common to both: Avast Premium Security 19.7.2388, WinPatrol Plus, SpywareBlaster 5.5, Opera 12.18, Firefox 68.0.2, MBam Free, CCleaner

I haven't seen any change in my speedtest.net results with avast 8 and web shield enabled. I get 37.22Mbps ^ and 1.69Mbps v close to my maximums for my broadband account 40Mbps download and 2Mbps upload. This has remained pretty constant since my broadband connection/service was upgraded (just over one year nine months).

So there has to be something else in the mix.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

I also get my ISP's advertised speeds with Avast turned on.

DavidR and DannyG tests are about 40 & 90 Mb/s , so do they see  more or less 2Mb weight

On the other hand 2Mb/s for 4Mb Epsi line , .... :'(

Edit:however as far I'm concerned with my 2Mb max line , no difference with or without avast 8 => always neer maxi
