Is it bad to have both on at the same time? If so should I just delete ad-aware then and keep avast going?
Oh and what about avast and windows defender?

It also depends on what adaware version you have as one version includes an antivirus module and this can conflict.
That said, I too would recommend that you go with MalwareBytes Anti Malware (MBAM) as an addition to avast.
