Title: Avast won't install

So the friend of mine got infected by nasty file infector-Sality.
So because I know Sality is impossible to clean when windows is active,I decided to format her system partition.
When format was completed I downloaded avast and ran the setup.
Everything seemed to be normal but in the end of the installation I got a screen which said : "There was an error while completing setup process". I ran aswclear in safe mode, then I tried to install avast again... I got the same error....

not sure if this help........but did the OS have latest service pack and fully updated before you installed ?

- Which avast!..?? (Free/Pro/IS)
- Other security related software installed..??

We have seen this error before "Error: ashBase.dll (C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\ashBase.dll) could not be loaded."

It could well be a problem with a missing Visual C++ 2008 Distribution pack, try downloading and installing this:
You need 2008 SP1 - this is the one:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2051a0c1-c9b5-4b0a-a8f5-770a549fd78c)
