Title: Program update 7.0.1426
Post by: sedina on March 07, 2012, 11:33:21 AM
Hi guys,

We have just released program update - version number 7.0.1426.

List of most important changes:
http://www.avast.com/en-us/release-history

Direct download links (before the partner sites get refreshed)
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe

Update from v6/v7 should of course be also possible via the built-in program updater.

Thanks,
Pavel

I want to do a clean instal from 7.0.1407 is the file here the one I want? It is worded like it is just the update. I assume it is the whole program because of the name having setup in it but want to be sure. thanks

If you want to do an install from scratch (i.e. remove the previous installation), use the links above.
If you want to just upgrade from the previous version, use the built-in program updater.

Yes, this is an official update (the second release version of avast 7).

I have 3 systems currently running 7.0.1414 (2 win7 x64 and 1 XP SP3). I Cannot upgrade thru the GUI as it tells me that 7.0.1414 is latest.

As anyone managed to upgrade from 1414 to 1426 using the GUI updater so far?

Thanks then I guess it is a server issue where the new code is not available yet?

Avast GUI updater tells me it is using download735.avast.com (208.43.71.137) on 1 system and download332.avast.com (82.192.95.136) on another system but still tells me I am up to date with 1414

In this and in earlier versions. Do not work monitor behavior, shield scripts, I also tried trigger  filerep action - an effect ineffective. Autosanox doesn't work - i tested autosabox tool avast .

Well manual Program Update check from my XP system 7.0.1414, reports I have the latest, yet the same check on my win7 netbook with the 7.0.1407 build, updates to 7.0.1426.

So it looks like there might be an issue with it recognising I have a beta build and is checking the beta stream for updates (and obviously none present) or as mentioned not all servers have it yet.

According to Asyn (post # 20) he upgraded using the GUI from 1414 to 1426. I am in the same situation as you are both with Win 7 and XP systems running 1414

Updated via the installer from .1414 to .1426  :)
Had to register again after restart, UI says: 25 days left! So far so good everything is working perfect except:

The 14 day old bug with my account (my.avast.com) is still present: although connected to the account, it just shows the default page and no devices with details (ticket: ASW #RJU-421363).

Edit: (ticket number)

my only issue i came across is i had to re-register all 3 systems. this is going to be annoying every time there is a software update. please fix this!
Title: Re: Program update 7.0.1426

I cannot believe that the folks at Avast did it again!  No way to install from the GUI if you have 1414 already installed. This causes the users to have to deinstall/reinstall from scratch and then have to register again their license and then register again to the my.avast.com accounts and then have to update the systems listed there since there will be duplicates.

I love Avast Antivirus but the Avast team seems to be caught in a unexplained rush to come out with new releases without proper testing. I can accept maybe an issue with the initial version 7 going out but this version 1426 not being able to get updated from the GUI from 1414 is just plain ridiculous. If the users are to be your test beds you should have come out with a beta 1426 before making it mainstream.

You can install 1426 over 1414 by installer, no need to install it from scratch.

Cannot update from GUI is annoying, though.

i had to re-register a 4th system. this is not acceptable because some of these users are not tech savy and dont know how to register. i had to do it for them. am i gonna have to go over to there house and do it everytime there is a software update. ugh.
Title: Re: Program update 7.0.1426
Post by: DavidR on March 07, 2012, 02:44:23 PM
Some are reporting that they have been able to update to 7.0.1426 from the .1414 UI, though so far I haven't been able to on this system. However, that may be more down to servers not having the update present.

One thing for sure if you weren't having any problem with 1407 or .1414 (beta) then there really is no rush to get 7.0.1426. So a reinstall is a massive over reaction, when you could A) wait a little time to see if it will update from the UI or B) install 7.0.1426 over .1407 or .1414.

Perfect, I like that and it makes things much more easy!
But still my page does not work (no devices).

Updated from with the program just fine. But the link in post #1 for the full setup of Avast Free, only downloads an 8.6MB file. Perhaps that is all it should be to do the update to 1426 .. or should it be a full size file of around 75MB ?
Otherwise all fine.

updating avast 7.0.1407 to 1426 from the UI, made windows, after restart, not to load completly. It stopped juste before the desktop. The event viewer said avast processes could not start. Had to start in safe mode and disable avast services, and then uninstall-reinstall avast.

I'm using windows 7 x64.

My 1414 version wouldn't detect any update for 1426 so i downloaded from here and installed over the top, i had to register again but other than that it's working well :)

My 1414 also didn't find the update and the installer didn't give me an update option either, so to avoid possibly messing up my setting by installing over, I just replaced servers.def file with the one from the installer Temp folder and after that the update from the GUI worked.

Just installed 7.0.1426.0 having previously had problems with 7.0.1414.0 and reverting back to 6.0.1367.0

7.0.1426.0 has still got the same problems with Windows 7 x64 and Outlook 2010 x64 email coming through corrupted as follows (the smileys are all ?'s)

????????????????????????????????????????????•?????????????????????????????
?????????????????????????????????4???????????????????????????????????????›
???????????????????????????‡???????????????????????????????4???=??????????
??????????????????›???????????????????????????????????????????????????????
??????????????

When is this issue going to be resolved?

Turning off the insert notes is the only thing that seems to temporarily resolve it.

Reported password bug a little concerning.  Are all versions of Windows affected?

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=95163.msg758888#msg758888 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=95163.msg758888#msg758888)

No rush to go to 1426 ATM as I clean installed 1407 after having some booting problems with GUI upgrade from 1367.  Booting was slower than with version 1367.  Problems fixed by clean install, so...  Have not upgraded to 1414, but will skip to 1426.

I keep reminding myself not to upgrade to latest version as a/v is one of the most important software components I run on my system until bugs such as the one above are fixed.

EDIT:  Typo

XP machine updated from 1407 through the GUI and all went well. I can confirm however, that now the account page is completely broken.  It was showing my devices but they weren't communicating at all. One was 9 days behind and this one 13 hours. I deleted both devices from the account and then disconnected through the settings menu and reconnected again. Neither machine will show up in the devices now.

Hey Vlk

Thankfully its fixed the problem, but! When you go to Summary>Statistics, the memory box comes again. It terminates the program restarts it. Tried it on the free and the PRO on free trial. No biggie just cant use the Statistics which I don't think ill need to use. But the Antivirus is up and running though!

I have problems with it and the previous version. Installed it on Windows 8 Consumer Preview and I experienced the following:

- If I "Shut Down", after starting Windows again, the internet connections shows that is connected but Limited, so no internet connection

- I can't even connect to my router by entering the IP adress to access it , so bassicaly my wireless card doesn't work at all

- This happens to me with Avast Internet Security 7, this latest version and same with the previous version (I tried disabling all the shields, nothing happens)

- It works only if I "Restart" Windows

- It also works if I uninstall my Atheros AR9285 driver from Device Manager, then hit the "Scan hardware changes" and so it installs the driver again, I connect to the wireless router and it works like that

What could cause this problem? It is a conflict within Avast and my wireless card driver? I uninstalled Avast ...

Avast Internet Security (namely, its firewall module) is currently not really compatible with the Windows 8 CP build. This will be of course fixed in one of the next program updates.

Avast Free should work OK even now (as well as AIS without the firewall, i.e. using a Custom Installation).

Thanks
Vlk

Updated via GUI to v7.0.1426. Thank you Avast Team. Job well done.

As a note, I started using "startpage" for my Search Engine a few days ago on FX browser (3 user accounts) and noticed "Google Update 1.3.21.99" has not been showing as accessing the internet in my OA firewall history as of today. I have 2 "limited accounts" and was concerned that Chrome browser would get installed on one of the accounts in error through using Google search engine and having one of my family clicking on Chrome browser being offered on the search engine page. I have no idea if Google Update not showing as of today was due to absence of not using Google search engine or if it was due to a virus definition update. I guess I'm just a happy FX user and not looking for using Chrome.

Hello

All of the sudden today my Advast was not working.   Everything I have tried has failed.   I even dowloaded the CNET Tracker and followed their instructions.   A black screen showed up after I tried downloading Avast again saying that the download was successfull.  But then a small square box came on again saying Avast and after blinking for a short while said that the download was not able to complete.   I don't know what else to do.

In the first instance you use the normal windows uninstall. The uninstall utility is there should there be a problem in using the normal uninstall.

For one reason or another I wasn't in here the last couple of days, so missed the initial announcement of this release.  Just now updated through the UI with no problems at all, and everything seems to be working fine.

With regard to the issue of now requiring an account to register (raised in another thread, I think?), it would seem that it only applies to a fresh install -- or possibly when renewing registration, which is still several months off for me.  I got no such notice when updating through the UI, or when rebooting afterwards, and my registration info seems to have been imported properly from the previous version.

hey why cant you guys turn on PUP detection automatically in all the shields and scan settings? Avast IS SO MORE EFFECTIVE WITH THE PUP TURNED ON.
Also novice users don'tii dig up in the settings and hence they might think avast detection is a bit low but with it turned on, it would improve the detection rate based on default factory settings. Please understand!!
Title: Re: Program update 7.0.1426
Post by: Dch48 on March 09, 2012, 11:42:40 PM
The problem is that some things avast!, and other AV's , classify as PUP's are completely safe programs and not dangerous in any way. In fact every one I have seen get detected as a PUP has been safe. Having the detection on by default would very likely confuse users on the lower end of the experience scale. If you want it on, by all means go for it but I don't agree that it should be a default feature.
Title: Re: Program update 7.0.1426
Post by: Gargamel360 on March 09, 2012, 11:49:08 PM

Yeah, novice users don't need PUP on because the do not understand what it means.
They think everything is VIRUS, no middle ground.
And they do not want their AV to educate them on PC security.

No matter how much good it would do them. ;)

I've got a problem similar to soob's. After the update to 7.0.1426, windows hangs at the loading screen for around 20 seconds, and then gives a black screen for another 20 seconds before loading my desktop. Even then everything goes extremely slowly, windows firewall reports that it's not working and my browser speed becomes extremely slow. Tried a clean install for at least 3 times, no improvement. This problem comes and goes randomly though, and disappears upon reboot.

I made a thread for this problem i'm experiencing, any help is appreciated. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=95195.15

Yeah.  I noticed the same thing.  I had upgraded my XP Pro from fhe first V7 release to 1426 with no problems.  AutoSandbox was already off because the V7 AutoSandbox kept me from booting.  My wife was still running V6 on her XP Home.  I turned her Sandbox off and updated directly to 7.0.1426.  Never got past the Logon screen on reboot, and couldn't shut down without killing the power.  After several tries, I rebooted in Safe Mode. And got my copy of aswclear.exe.  Came up normally and downloaded avast 7 from the net.  Resat all her defaults, reregistered, and all's cool.  Will avast "ever" get program upgrade correct? :-(

I just updated to the latest version 7.0.1426.
After the update I had a problem with Microsoft Outlook 2007. After closing Outlook, it would automatically reopen, then on closing it again, I would get a message saying that outlook was trying to save my data.

After investigating what may have caused this problem, I discovered that the Avast update actually installed a Com plugin called Avast antispam. I solved my problem by logging on to the computer under the administrator account in safe mode, then opening Outlook and going to the tools menu, and then to the trust centre entry, and clicking on the addins entry in the left pane, then clicking on the go button next to the com addins field. Once there, I unchecked the Avast antispam plugin item, clicked OK and closed outlook. I then restarted the computer in normal mode, logged on as the limited user that had the outlook profile setup. I discovered that the problem was now solved.

Did the same thing (including fresh reinstall with 7.0.1426) but still hangs after Windows 7 login.  A look into the system event log on boot into safe mode reveals "failed to load aswKbd.sys & aswSnx.sys".  So basically I'm stuck uninstalling Avast, as I can't even boot normally with it installed, which really blows since I just renewed my license about a month ago.   >:(

Updated my Windows7 system to the newest version and am stuck with the hanging after entering password after required reboot from Avast!.

System restore does not resolve.
Safe Mode - boots.
Safe Mode w/Networking - system hang after password, same as normal boot.

Resolution - uninstall of Avast via removal tool provided from Avast!.

Dear Avast!, seriously?  Why are you releasing an update that requires a reboot and then makes your users OS's not bootable?  Why is this still live?  Surely you have some sort of testing that you perform before a release...

I then manually selected update from the Avast panel but then the wait started while it stated it was initiating (going through Stage 1 of 2).
About 40 minutes later it is still initiating.

Does anyone have the same problem and if so, is there a fix???

My current version of Avast Internet Security is 7.0.1407
I'm running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Cheers All
Mike

Since you are posting in a topic relating to program update for avast 7.0.1426, was this a program update (as you have 7.0.1407) or a virus definitions update ?

What was the error displayed ?

Updated program thru GUI 8 hrs ago. Initially, system was very slow on restart, and startup programs took forever to load. Appears to be functioning well at this point. Will continue to watch closely over the next couple of days.

Day 3 of upgrade from .1407 to .1426. Aside from a perceptible increase in boot time the only other thing I am not clear on is streaming updates. It shows connection established, and updates are being received. But it will at times show when last received, and at other times '---'. Others have pointed this out in other threads, although without a definitive explanation on why that is.

I actually think my system boots up quite a bit faster now with 1426 than it did before. I can also access my mail program almost immediately after the desktop loads which now takes less than 50 seconds.

The installer is still flawed if you add/remove features from an install.

Removed Browser Protection,Sandbox and Remote Assistance, the script runs, says it has completed the changes but no restart is offered, Windows throws and werror message "This program may not have uninstalled correctly".

Manual restart is required to force the changes requested and once retarted  yet again the WebShiled and MailShields do not report any activity.

I will join those reporting a severe performance issue with v1426. The symptoms are that everything runs about 100 times as slow, making the system appear to be locked up, nearly unresponsive to input... but if you are infinitely patient, everything will eventually happen. I've seen the exact same thing occur in the past with one of those 'other' antivirus programs. My solution so far has  been to revert to v1407.

Obviously, not everyone is experiencing this symptom. In fact, it is happening for me on only one of three computers. The other two are running V1426 with no problem. Why is this? I don't know.

Hi Pavels,
After trying to update from free Avast 6.0.1367 to 7.0  I experienced just problems.I`ve contacted your Avast support team through email and the only thing they are advising me is to try again to download aswclear.exe .By the way, they e-mail me every 3-4 days with the same instructions.I`ve tried numerous times to download it and ran it in Safe Mode. When in Safe Mode message reads :
C: \user\desktop\aswclear.exe is not a valid win32 application.
Also when in Safe Mode -Control Panel under " Uninstall/change programs "message reads :
“Avast!Setup fatal error”. Another  message says :
“Error reading data from C:\program files\avast software\avast setup. Setup cannot continue”.
When from Avast user panel I try to start real time shields it reads :
"Unable to start ( this is for all 8 (eight) shields ) .Shield unreachable".
When in “Control panel” –“Action Center” –“Security” – “Virus Protection” – “Avast” –“ Turn On Now” –reads
“File system shield provider not found”.
When in “Task manager”  I click on avast!Anivirus (reads :Stopped)than right click to “ Start Service – reads:
“The operation could not be completed.Access is denied”.
When in “Services”(Local) it reads :
Description : manages etc.  -  Status:(blank)  -Start up(automatic) – Log on: (Local System)
When I click on “ start the service “ it is loading than  it says :
“TheaAvast!Antivirus service on Local Computer started and than stopped. Some services stop automatically  if they are not in use by other services or programs.”
Also :
When trying to register:
"The AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error"
When new Avast 6.0 file was downloaded:
An error 0(00000000)has occured.
Last performed aperation was :spawning
I`ve also tried calling 1-877-877-9362 iYogi team .While I provided them with my e-mail address I was furious to learn that they want my phone number , full name and address and permission to access my computer remotely.Luckily they did not ask for my blood type. They are NOT  willing to guide me over the phone to uninstall your program although on your web page it says clearly that they should provide PHONE support. It has been now two weeks that my system is not protected and I am not able to uninstall it to start fresh or to upgrade it . I`m able to see my statistics under Avast User Panel -Summary-Statistics( "Click here to see your complete ststistics for the last 30 days") .Out of four computers that I have I was able to upgrade your product without any problem on three of them.I would appreciate if you could provide me with the phone number that I could call on my own expense or to guide me in detail on "How to start fresh or upgrade without getting heart attack".Thanks in advance for your prompt answer.

C: \user\desktop\aswclear.exe is not a valid win32 application.

I had the same problem when I tried to do a fresh re-install on my wife's XP Home box, but thought I just had a bad download.  I had a copy of aswclear.exe on my machine (as I always do whenever there's a new avast release) so I just got it from my LAN.  Someone should look at that, but in the mean time, you may try the latest at http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/ in safe mode.

I'm not saying that this will fix all the problems some are having but you can improve your boot times significantly by defragmenting your disc and running whatever optimization routine your particular utility offers. Some, like Auslogics, have a feature that moves system files to the fastest part of the disc. This obviously will speed up booting. Others, like Puran,  have a similar feature with a different name. I have also read that the built in defragmenters of XP, Vista, and especially Win 7 also place the system files in an optimal location so they should be on at least a weekly automatic  schedule in my opinion and not fully disabled. I always do a defrag after an update that causes considerable fragmentation. I never wait until the fragmentation hits 10%. I sometimes will do it when it only says 1% and I always defrag after one of my games updates before even playing it.

You mean you downloaded http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/support/avg_remover_stf_x86_2011_1322.exe and Windows would still not ren it as a valid .EXE file?  In Safe Mode? Does it show an avast icon.  If not, maybe try killing any Download Manager, and just let the browser download and save it......... :-\

There is another possibility as the "file is not a valid win32 application" or words to that effect can also be an indication of malware on your system and it blocks security based executables to prevent you removing the malware.

This needs further analysis by a malware removal specialist:
Go to this topic http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0) for information on Logs to assist in cleaning malware. Use the information about getting and using the tools and start your own new topic and attach the logs there, not in the LOGS topic.

Create your new topic here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=4.0 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=4.0) in the viruses and worms forum (click the New topic button at the top of the page see image) and we will try and help you there

Yeah.  Of course.  Exactly that happened to a friend's machine in January.  Not to use the bad word, but I made an AVG Rescue CD on my machine, and ran it on theirs.  It cleaned the rootkit but I had to delete an infected System file. So, it wouldn't boot.  I got the file (I forget the name), from my XP Pro machine, and put it on a floppy.  I then used the Sp3 Recovery disk to copy it from the floppy, using the Recovery Console.  One more Malwarebytes scan found one more small item in Java cache, and one annoying message with the Windows Security Center service, and all is well.

Greetings, all,

I know I'm late to this dance, but I wanted to chime in on the performance difference between .1407 and .1426.

On my fully-patched Windows 7 x64 system (running only avast! 7 and Windows firewall as resident security programs), 1426 is in fact considerably slower than 1407, especially when browsing the web with web and network shields enabled.  It is also a little bit more sluggish opening .exe files, but very noticeably slower during Windows bootup.  As an (imperfect) indicator of the boot problem, the ntosboot.pf boot prefetch file is about 60% larger for 1426 than for 1407 (with all other startup programs and services held constant, and the ntosboot.pf file deleted before each reboot), and the boot itself is about 10-15 seconds longer.  I have nothing like the extreme delays that some of you are getting, but the differences are quite obvious on my system nonetheless. Functionally, the machine seems to be doing everything it should, just rather slowly.

I have reverted to 1407 and boot/program speeds are back to just about what I had running avast! 6.

Hope everyone who has the major slowdowns/issues can get their problems resolved quickly!

Crashman

But crucially you need to copy this information over there a "I tried everything and all it does is lock my desktop up, HELP." doesn't help anyone to help you and there are people tripping over themselves on that topic to try and help you.

Useless post really, what version of Avast, what else are you running on the machine?  Avast7 is running on Win7 64Bit on 2 machines here and both are definitely booting/shuttng down and unning faster than with Avast6 and I have installed avast7 on other Win7 machines without a problem.

One thing you can try, during the betas I found speed issues with explorer and apps opening. It turned out that the Windows Firewall was causing issues. Turn that off or reset the firewall to defaults and the issue cleared. This has worked for a few people here.

Still shaking...please excuse me.

1.) WINXP SP3  32bit  3G SDRAM
2.) Zone Alarm (Free) firewall 6.1.744.001
3.) Mozilla Firefox ESR 10.0.3
4.) Google Notifier 1.0.25.0

Just tried to update within program (Avast 6.x).  Installation appeared to go smoothly, restarted computer.  At desktop once again...then went to launch Mozilla Firefox ESR 10.0.3.  As it was launching, a notice box from Avast came up over systemtray, I had time only to catch words "serious problem" and BAM!  BSOD!  I hadn't had one of these in years.  Did a manual reboot of machine, decided to try my limited user account just to see what I could determine from there.  Clicked, started to load...bam!  Back to boot screen.  This kind of behavior is so absolutely rare that I'm not ashamed to admit I'm flustered for sure.  I came back in under Safe mode and UNINSTALLED Avast 7.0.1426.  I'm guessing that it has something to do with (AUTO) Sandbox feature because I noticed a new folder on my root dir "Avast Sandbox" which contains a Windows prefetch file for the Firefox executable.   Bottom line:  I'm scared to try again.  Is there no way for the time being to revert to the last Avast 6.x version until the smoke clears.  I was running Avast 6.x with impunity!  ??    Today I sweat.

***EDIT:   Solution (apparently?).  As I mentioned I performed uninstall of unsuccessful version 7.x INSTALL.   Then since I had backup of version 5.x., I did clean install of version 5.x.  I would have stopped here but from within version 5.x I was told a higher version of 5.x was available so I thought...what the heck!  But when I updated I got version 7.0.1426 instead.  Anyway, so far so good!  I did change autosandbox to "ASK" and when I calm down, maybe I'll remove FIREFOX.EXE from Sandbox exclusion.  That is all.  Running 7.0.1426...nervously.   :-\   - Brad***

I should think that this would be of concern to avast to learn that users/subsribers who'd been in the avast camp for years are bolting to other products/competitors.

The post as it stood told no one anything of use, to be able to give help Avast staff and members here need to know exactly what is being used, which OS. which Avast version, what else is on the system.
How was the new version installed, fresh install or upgrade. Saying it doesn't work I'm leaving is pointless.

And given that the numbers of sales and installs are rapidly increasing  I don't think there are too many "bolting " anywhere.

The path will vary according to how Avast was updated.  Since I've updated from Avast 5 to Avast 6 and now Avast 7, the defs path is different.  Since I'm overly curious, I added a shortcut on my desktop to C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\defs.  That way, it's a simple double-click on the icon to see the contents of the defs folder, as the sub-folders below that will change with each VPS update.

Title: Cannot send email from Outlook 3003 after Program update 7.0.1426
Post by: JeffCecchini on March 20, 2012, 12:53:38 AM
I upgraded to 7.0.1426 on a Win XP Pro SP3 machine. Using MS Outlook 2003 SP3, I could not send emails unless I un-checked "Scan outbound messages" in Real-time shield->Mail Shield. (I did add my SMTP and POP3 host names and ports in even though it said that non-SSL accounts weren't needed.)

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I'm hoping this will get fixed. I love avast! and have some paid installs at work and some free at home, refer the heck out of it and install it for my clients too.

Thanks.

Dear Avast Support Team,

I have a very stange bug with (using) Avast Gadget.
I use this application on my system: 7 Sidebar (click here for more infos...) (http://nes.bplaced.net/sidebar7.html) (emulates the sidebar of Vista in Windows 7)

Notice: See my screenshots...

1.) Avast Gadget and 7 Sidebar are enabled:

If I start Windows Media Player I get a wierd; strange UI bug. (see screenshots)
It doesn't matter what type of Avast Gadget I use. (taller or wider one)

2.) 7 Sidebar Disabled OR(!) Avast gadget moved to desktop:

If I close "7 Sidebar" the strange Media Player UI bug dissappear.
If I move Avast Gadget to my Desktop the problem also has gone away.

I hadn't noticed this bug with the previous Avast 6. (latest Avast 6 version)
But I used 7 Sidebar application + Avast Gadget (on the 7 Sidebar surface) and of course used Windows Media Player, as well.

Now, I use: Avast 7 latest build.

It seems to me there are some kind of conflict with these application. (7 Sidebar + Avast Gadget)

Could you guys fix this bug?!

PS1:

As you can see I have plenty of verious Gadget on my system. I have no problem at all using those gadget and using Windows Media Player or any kind of other application... Definately the problem just appear if I enable Avast Gadget on 7 Sidebar surface area and run Windows MP.

PS2:

I also sent a feedback message to the owner of the 7 Sidebar application.

Thanks!

Really frustrating!!!  A very long time Avast user, now having the second machine in a row going down completely because of Avast upgrade.  Dunno what's wrong, but after the recent upgrade to 7, even logon became a problem.  Both machines had Avast free+Comodo Firewall(firewall only)+MSE/Defender.  One had XP-32Bit and the current one going down Win-7(64bit).  Tried quite a few things but failed.  Gave up.
Uninstalled Avast, switched to Avira Antivir Free.  Feel sad that I could not get Avast to work even after trying for a few days, uninstalling/reinstalling/revo-uninstalling, etc....

What do you mean by MSE/Defender? You should never have MSE and Avast installed at the same time.  If you mean just Defender, I would have tried turning that off. It never seemed to conflict before but maybe it does now. Defender doesn't do anything that Avast doesn't do better so it's really not needed.

Hello,
I run Avast 7.0.1426 (paid version) on an XP computer.
Avast Firewall isn't starting automaticaly
When I try to start the firewall I get a pop-up saying 'Unable to start Firewall!'.
Tried the following without result:
- restart the computer
- restart the computer without Windows Firewall

Installed Avast also on other computer running Vista, no problem with firewall.
Any suggestions?
Tnx in advance.

@ atulk,

You should not run 2 (or more) antivirus programs on your machine at the same time as they often create conflicts.  I suggest that you uninstall both Avira and MSE, even if you have done so already, since remnants often remain.  See the links below for uninstalling…then reboot your machine after each uninstall.

Avira Uninstall:
https://www.avira.com/en/support-for-home-knowledgebase-detail/kbid/88 (https://www.avira.com/en/support-for-home-knowledgebase-detail/kbid/88)
http://www.themisteriosos.com/uninstall-avira-antivir-completely.htm (http://www.themisteriosos.com/uninstall-avira-antivir-completely.htm)

MSE Uninstall:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2435760 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2435760)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2483120 / (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2483120 /) - if unable to uninstall from the above link

After uninstalling the above and doing the reboots, see if Avast works properly.  If not, it may have been corrupted by the other AV’s you had on your system, in which case you need to uninstall Avast with the Avast Uninstaller Tool http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility), then reinstall Avast and reboot.

Why NOT to use Revo: Revo and some of the other Un-installers are generic uninstallers.  Simply put, they get rid of most of the stuff, but not when it comes to security software.

When it comes to removing an antivirus program, which runs as a service on your system and is in some ways involved in all parts of the operating system, you need a specific uninstaller capable of removing every part of the antivirus program.  Without this capability, some critical parts could remain and interfere with the new antivirus program being installed (also called a conflict).

Let us know how this works for you.  Thank you.

@ MDW,

Check your AIS (Avast Firewall) to make sure nothing is being blocked to prevent Avast from working on the XP.

You may also want to delete the entry in AIS for it and reconnect to the Internet.  This should force the firewall to ask permission again.  Let us know how this works.  Thank you.

Idiots !!!!! why you erase my comment ?  Becose Avira is better ? Idiots. Go to hell with your bull-s-h--i-t Avast.

The reason this post is still here is because you have just been given a warning about your language. Regardless of what you feel the language and abuse is uncalled for.

If you have nothing to contribute to resolving the problem then don't bother posting. If you are using avira, good luck to you; effectively have nothing to contribute in the avast support forums.

... to be able to give help Avast staff and members here need to know exactly what is being used, which OS. which Avast version, what else is on the system.
How was the new version installed, fresh install or upgrade. Saying it doesn't work I'm leaving is pointless.

And given that the numbers of sales and installs are rapidly increasing  I don't think there are too many "bolting " anywhere.

Short of allowing an Avast programmer login to my machine, how would you suggest we give all that info to the devs?
Should I try posting a 500 line log file from SiSoft Sandra or something?

You can try using the avastUI, Maintenance, Support, scroll down to Generate Support Package, Generate Now,

This will create a zip file with the options chosen, this can be uploaded by ftp (anonymous) to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming (ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming)

Thanks David,
I did as you suggested but there's no way on this planet that I would upload that file... even if it was encrypted, password protected, and transferred via SSH.

I took a look in the files and it lists all my email accounts, several sites I visited including back-end development, local machine development, xml feeds that are sent via port 443 with credential parameters, and more.

The risk to my business is just way to high for me without a signed NDA or at least having some form of proper contract.

It's too bad that there isn't a privacy filter that can be hooked up to the support file generator. That simple solution would make it ok for me to upload the file.

One way or another, I hope Avast reacts to the MS Outlook compatibility problem so many people are having since the last Windows 7 X64 update and Avast 7.0.1426 update.
It's a shame, just a few months ago I had a boatload of my clients install the paid version. In about a week, I'm going to have to find another solution unless Avast addresses these problems or rolls back the last update. And I love avast.... and have been using it for years.

then restart system
now your antivirus update successfully

The suggestion doesn't make sense (installing avast! and then using the FixUpdate tool). The FixUpdate tool was done for one specific problem that happened in the past during automatic updates (i.e. is basically obsolete these days, unless you have avast! installed for a long time and the updates have been failing for you for a long time, too). If you install avast! today, the FixUpdate tool is certainly of no use and won't help you in any way.

My experience... not so good so far... allowed auto upgrade from 7.0.1407  ----> 7.0.1426

Following auto upgrade, system looked ok, but when tried to browse web Firefox opened @ mozilla home ok  yet failed to load any other pages (error messages given as time outs), checked network connections...fine, avast interface visually showed no problems.... netbook very slow and when tried to activate other progammes, these may have been started but no windows opened, their app not listed in task manager, no circular waiting cursor, trying again dialog gave programme may be running message, close and restart etc.

windows system restore pulled me back a few days...and to Avast v1407 (at least that is what the Prog version line now says in red)... and firefox now browsing ok.. all now seems as it was before the auto upgrade

I have re-download aclear.exe, so will try an install new manually (as had to last time) hopefully upgrade will work then, but seems strange this is second time an auto update has failed

Update

using safe mode removed avast using downloaded avast clear utility , restarted, cleaned with ccleaner and did fresh install, all appears good now and uptodate! Thankyou! :)

suggestion

if default "ask" when to update is selected in settings, maybe, as a failsafe, if you click blue alert update now install, give a second dialog box from that with option to proceed with auto installation or option "download current avast removal tool and newversion.exe for manual removal and update"   something like that might be useful

also if anyone like me on win7 starter a bit unsure about how to get into safe mode (to use clear.exe) perhaps a brief script to accompany exe, script on your site or links to microsoft site ... I found this bit of text very helpful:

Through System Configuration (msconfig)

    1. To Start Windows 7 in Safe Mode
    warning   Warning
This will set Windows 7 to start into Safe Mode until you set it back to the normal boot mode in step 2 below.

        A) Open the Start Menu, then type msconfig in the search box and press Enter.

        C) Click on the Boot tab.

        D) Select Windows 7 at the top, then check Safe boot and dot Minimal.

        E) Click on OK and restart the computer.

        F) The computer will now restart and start Windows 7 into Safe Mode.

Very long way around to get to safe mode, easyer is to reboot system and keep tapping f8 while the system is starting and you'll be in safe mode in no time  ;D once you restart the system again you will automatically be put to normal mode.

Just to add my two penneth having read through the postings and still unclear as to what to do:
First a bit of background:
Reformatted last week.
XP Pro, Windows Firewall, Wired to Hub, Avast free (latest). 2.0 GB RAM.
First startup of the day: No startup screens ( No American Megatrends, driver screen, Welcome screen....nothing.)
Five minutes go by with just the black screen and then straight to desktop. Computer working fine and snappy.
Shut down in the normal way and startup again ....beautiful...usual screens and fortyfive seconds.
Is this problem a result of the rootkit scan on startup and/or the raw disk access on boot time scan?
If I find that it is then maybe I'll learn to live with it as I do like Avast!
If it isn't the problem then I'm just going to have to find a replacement.

Today I updated my Avast free anti-virus software by using the Update Program link in the Avast user interface. Much to my amazement, it installed Google CRAPWARE (Google update, Google CrashHandler, etc.) on my computer without my knowledge or consent. I was unable to uninstall the CRAPWARE because it did not appear in the Control Panel in Add or Remove Programs. The uninstall option also did not appear in the Start Menu as Google says it should. Yet the Google CRAPWARE was listed in msconfig as a service that was running, was listed in the task scheduler, and littered my registry with dozens of entries. My only option to uninstall the CRAPWARE (not just disable it) was to do a system restore, which worked, but broke Avast. I then had to uninstall Avast, which turned out to be a pain in the patootie. Uninstalling from the Control Panel and from Revo wouldn't work because the self-defense module was enabled. Unchecking Enable Avast! self-defense module in Settings didn't work - the setting wouldn't stick. So I had to reboot my computer in safe mode. I finally got Avast 6.0.1367 uninstalled and manually installed 7.0.1426 without the CRAPWARE. All told, a good two hours of my time wasted.

Please don't try to tell me that the Avast update didn't install the Google CRAPWARE. I have no Google software of any kind on my computer - no Google Chrome, no Google Earth, no Google Anything. I also have no Google account of any kind - no gmail, no Google Docs account, no YouTube account, no Google account whatsoever. The Google CRAPWARE wasn't there before the Avast update; it was there after the Avast update. Ergo, Avast installed the Google CRAPWARE. I am writing to express my OUTRAGE at Avast's practice of installing unnecessary memory-hogging CRAPWARE on my computer without my knowledge or consent. Installing CRAPWARE should be an option that is offered the user (in both the manual and automatic install routines), not a sneaky stealth installation.

You have now UNNECESSARILY alienated a long-time user of your software. I am investigating other options for antivirus software. Avast isn't the only game in town.

Once you start the install of the new avast, the first screen that pops up with the option for express or custom install also has down the bottom of that same popup an option to not install Google Chrome ( it is pre ticked ) but i suppose you missed that.

You probably could have used "Search Everything" and "Windows Services" "Windows MS Config" along with "Process Explorer" to find the location of, disable and delete the "CRAPWARE" files without a doing a Restore.

Once you start the install of the new avast, the first screen that pops up with the option for express or custom install also has down the bottom of that same popup an option to not install Google Chrome ( it is pre ticked ) but i suppose you missed that.

I didn't miss it because it's not there. You're referring to the manual download of the update. I suppose you missed that I was referring to the update from within the Avast user interface (Maintenance>Update program) where no options are offered to the innocent user. Once "Update program" is clicked, Avast just does its obnoxious thing, without providing the user with any options, or even warning the user what is being "updated."

Thanks, I tried that first (stopped the services in MSConfig, disabled the services in Administrative Tools>Services, eliminated the services in Scheduled Tasks), but I didn't want to disable the CRAPWARE; I wanted to eliminate it from my computer.

Chrome is totally evil. Last time I updated Flash I opted not to install Chrome but it went ahead anyway. Rather than stop it I let it have its way then used Revo Uninstaller. That worked OK, but then Opera, T'bird etc. had to be adjusted as the associations had been taken over then deleted.
I do wish that companies wouldn't foist crapware on their users, especially dangerous trash.

There isn't anything dangerous about Chrome. In a lot of instances it is more secure than some of the other browsers.
The fact that you don't like Google, doesn't make Chrome a bad browser.
Using Revo to uninstall Chrome is what messed up your file association.

The Chrome browser is fine. I have it but choose to use IE9 99% of the time. I had no problems with anything Google related when I updated to Avast 7.0.1426 on any of the 3 machines here and they represent all 3 of the commonly used versions of Windows. I did however get the Google toolbar installed without an option not to when I updated the Flash player with the new updater they have now. That never happened before.

Sorry I forgot.  After you disable it you can then delete it in Search Everything.   Some software does not allow deletion unless it is first disabled.

Manually editing the registry for hundreds of obscure entries is a crude method of uninstalling evil software when compared with doing a simple system restore. I had actually started with the registry edit method, then gave up when it appeared it would take forever.

Of course, the best solution is for Avast to not insidiously install evil software. (Any software that installs itself without the user's knowledge and consent and cannot be uninstalled by any of the routine methods is evil.)

Manually editing the registry is a dangerous method more than it is a crude method.   Also, I never suggested manually editing the registry and never would to anyone.   Those that know how to do it relatively safely, there is always a risk even for the Geek, don't need my advice on how to remove Grapware :) and certainly wouldn't be complaining about problems removing Crapware on the avast! forum. ;D

If you don't want to turn Avast self-defence temporary off, the quickest way to delete the generated ZIP package is booting Windows in safe mode and removing it from there.

Same after aswclear.exe in protected mode & fresh install.

1) Why does 7.0.1426 not work anymore?

2) AfIk avast does not keep previous program versions. Obviously they should!

Dear Quibbler,

I have found that if an upgrade is done properly, avast! 7 is less problematic than avast! 6. In my opinion, proper means:

1)            Remove all avast!  versions as well as any other A/V programs from add/remove programs in control panel.

2)            Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility (aswclear.exe) and save it on your desktop.

http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe

3)            Start Windows in Safe Mode (F8 key before Windows splash screen on a reboot)

4)            Open (execute) the uninstall utility aswclear.exe

5)            Choose which version of avast! to uninstall. This process will be repeated for each avast! version (4, 5, and 6)  So let’s assume we had all 3 versions of avast! installed at some point. So we choose version 4.8 and proceed.

6)            If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)

7)            Click REMOVE

8)            Restart your computer

9)            Start Windows in Safe Mode again

10)          Open the avast! uninstall utility a second time

11)          Choose version 5 of avast!

12)          If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it.

13)          Click REMOVE

14)          Restart your computer

15)          Start Windows in Safe Mode again

16)          Open the uninstall utility again

17)          Choose version 6 of avast!

18)          If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it.

19)          Click REMOVE

20)          Restart your computer

21)          Now install avast! 7 (I personally prefer doing a custom installation)

Title: Re: Program update 7.0.1426

Do a clean install of the latest version:
- Download the latest version of avast, 7.0.1426 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe (http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe) and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn't save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

- Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility) and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for 5.x, 6.0.x and 7.0.x).

This assumes you are using the avast free version.

  • 1. Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can't do that start from the next step), reboot.
  • 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 6.x if previously installed and then for 7.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.
  • 3. install the latest version, reboot.

This assumes you are using the avast free version.

Ok thanks David, I'll do that.
Thx.

that program should repair your inability to get there.

The question is, in virusskane always the first to determine such as anti-virus software: F-Secure, G Data and Bit Defender. They have some sort of special protection for them automatically on the first code or have the same craftsmen like me, they just stupidly sent to the lab? Maybe there is some initial code in the banner to its anti-virus once discovered would, without any shipments to the laboratory? Just a couple of changes in the banner of kilobytes and antivirus have not see him. Explain how please. On what basis are working F-Secure, G Data and Bit Defender?

When windows try to boot it freeze and nothing worked. Already uninstalled by Avast uninstall software from safe mode and reinstall Avast but when it updated to new version 7.0.1426 windows freeze on boot...
At-last I had to remove Avast...!

Something wrong with Avast new update 7.0.1426
Hope you can solve these issues

Thanx for taking the time

I am running into the same problem.  Running WinXP SP3 (32 bit) and for the life of me cannot get Program 7.0.1426 (or any other version of 7 for that matter) to run.  Keeps locking up XP at the progress banner every time.  Have uninstalled Webroot (my prior A/V) and in Safe Mode have used the Avast Uninstaller program in Safe Mode, starting with v4 all the way up through v7, and even a fresh install of Avast! 7 has made any difference.

Seems to me this might've been the reason why I switched to Webroot from Avast on my XP machine back when version 6.x came out--even though I'm currently running Avast on all my other machines.

Tim

**UPDATE**

I've spent almost 7 hours working through this, and still no dice.  Looks like I'm going back to Webroot.

Dear Avast!

There's no denying your product does work very well, but I cannot understand why so many of your updates (in v6 and now v7) have been so problematic.  There is no way that the average user would ever be able to work through these issues.  Heck, I've been working with operating systems for almost 20 years, and I still can't figure out this latest problem with your v7 product locking up WinXP SP3.  I'm not maintaining license for multiple A/V products, so when renewal time comes early next year, I'm moving all my machines over to Webroot.  No hard feelings; I just don't have time for this :)

Hello. And avast internet security 7 and will be compatible with Windows 8 Release Preview? In the history of the version 7.0.1426 it is written, that so far as is compatible with Windows 8 Consumer Preview...!!!

Only because the Release Preview is relatively new, but there are several avast users also using the win8 release preview, even though it isn't written in the history.

To put it in a different way, avast! 7 is compatible with Windows 8 and has been since the first Consumer Beta Release.
It did not work on the Developers Preview.  :'(

Only because MS blocked avast! (MS only allowed MSE I believe) not because of compatibility.

WinXP SP3 hangs after typing UserPW after automatic upgrade to AV_free 7.0.1426.
Same after aswclear.exe in protected mode & fresh install.
Only power cycle helps.
Had to go back to 6.0.1367.0 .
System has all required patches from MS and Adobe (find output from msinfo32.exe as att.).

1) Why does 7.0.1426 not work anymore?

2) AfIk avast does not keep previous program versions. Obviously they should!
It works perfectly for me on XP SP3 but then I don't and never have used a password for Windows.

@ Timo1745

Are you sure you remove all traces of Webroot SecureAnywhere ? To use Add/Remove programs might not be enough.

Follow HowardR procedure to remove all traces of webroot from your Comp and then try to reinstall Avast!

http://community.webroot.com/t5/Webroot-SecureAnywhere-Antivirus/SecureAnywhere-and-Webroot2011-installed-together/td-p/136

Install Avast! from scratch again.

Download and save to your desktop aswclear : http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

Download and save a fresh copy of Avast!.

Be sure to have your lincense handy if running a paid version:

http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe

Use aswclear.exe in safe mode for any Avast! you may have had before and then for v. 7. Reboot after each uninstall.

Reinstall fresh copy of Avast! and reboot.

Good luck.

Hi all,

happy avast user here, or should I say unhappy and sad avast user now. :( :(

The reason I say this is because Avast! does not update for me now from time to time and as a result I have had to uninstall avast  completely uncountable times now.

Avast is set on automatic update for virus definitions and each time I have reinstalled Avast it automatically updated twice then after that I have to manually update it even though it is set on automatic update.
Can someone from Avast PLEASE tell me WHY this is happening to me?

I hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you

Lot of comments in only two days.

I am glad I stopped using avast! Beta's and stayed on the release track. 8)  No problems for me with 7.0.1426 except for the IE10 Flash ax statistics reporting issue.

Yes a lot of comments, but not so many issues as posts.

Personally I have no problem using avast beta's I have been for over eight years and no serious issue at all. If no one uses the beta on a wide range of systems then who will benefit.

So I can't see why you even bother to post in the beta topic if you aren't going to take part in the beta trial.

You have a short memory or maybe a selective short memory.  I was using Betas up until the release of .1426 and complained about the problems with the Betas.  It was you I as I recall that commented at the time that if you don't want problems you should stay away from using the Beta.    So my comment here was to show that I took your advice and and am glad I did despite your forgetfulness on the subject :)

As far as people who do use the Betas which are necessary for a software developer to have, ISTM in this case with avast! people who use the Betas and are the first to point out a problem with them should earn points depending on the severity of the problem they point out.   After they have accumulated so many of these "Beta User Points" they should be allowed to convert them into a dollar equivalent toward the purchase of an avast! product.  Excellent goodwill and really good way to encourage Beta users to really put a Beta to the test.

Yes you have chosen to stay away from betas, so I simply can't understand your commenting in the beta topic basically implying that there are problems with this one when you haven't use it.

It appears I need to start this version from the desktop shortcut.
It isn't starting at boot-up ???

Will try a repair and see if that fixes the problem.

I guess you don't know a compliment even when it is spelled out to you.  Let me try and make it perfectly clear.  Without mentioning your name the post was a compliment to you for suggesting people who don't want to deal with the Beta problems stay away from the Beta.   So yes I probably should have made it clearer in my post or maybe even sent you a message.   I didn't so slap my face for that one ???
