Title: Avast 2014 on Windows 8.1
Post by: theusername on October 19, 2013, 03:22:43 AM
I just updated to Windows 8.1 and it removed Avast. I went and installed the latest version and I'm getting lots of issues. For one, I cannot log on to my account (password is correct) It just gives me an error.
Second, I cannot turn on the service or self defense.
Third, I cannot uninstall Avast. Why...

Help me remove this please.
I don't want avast if it won't work, let alone uninstall...

Hi did you upgrade from the preview ?  As it is stated that all programmes will be lost if you do that and it may break the system.

So remove avast using the uninstall utility

Download Uninstall Utility (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility) to your Desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast
Avast Free (http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe)
Avast Pro (http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe)
Avast Internet Security (http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe)
Avast Premier (http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup.exe)
Disconnect from the net
Uninstall Avast via control panel

I have similar problem and I didn't update from preview having never installed it previously. Firstly the update removed avast completely, I tried a reinstall of avast and received error message   "Failed to load language dll [ UILlangRes.dll ] then on restart found it had corrupted my register. and locked keyboard out.
Eventually with a restore system manged to get back into windows, manually deleted avast in safe mode cleaned register. Reinstalled avast 9 only to now be in same situation as " Theusername "  and had to once more restore my system to prevent further problems when wanting to restart.

Uninstall Avast via control panel

  • Run aswClear
  • It will offer to reboot to safe mode .. no need to do that

  • In the Select Product to Uninstall dropdown choose the version of Avast that is on your system.
  • Press Uninstall
  • Once complete reboot your system to Normal Mode
  • Reinstall Avast

what I did was I upgraded from Windows 8.0 to WIndows 8.1 (from the store upgrade) and everything else works fine except avast. I tried installing the latest Avast 2014 version and I had issues with it not working, then I had to run the uninstaller and it's gone now. If I reinstall I think I will have the same issues won't I?
