Essentially for the greatest majority they aren't ads, ads try to sell you something don't they, the ones I see tend to be informative. Since I have my pop-ups for updates set to 1 second duration (you can also disable the update notification popup), so I really can't see what the big deal is.

I know everything in that video. I usually, not always, go through all that on clients machines so they don't see  popup surveys, ads, or any other garbage, I never used to have to do all that.

Personally on my machine I disable just the audio portion(I always did that) and change the definition update popup to 10 seconds. I like being informed when the defs are updated.

I also disable for clients and myself the community features and the credit alerts.

I don't find the popup messages informative at all, they're annoying. Dave, if you don't find the popups annoying why do you have them set to 1 second? What's the big deal?

I have had it on 1 second from long before these informative notices started getting tagged on. That is more than enough for me to register an update has been done, if like you you don't use the sound for updates.

I agree that these sales techniques to pressure you to upgrade are getting annoying.
