Avast Connection Timeout errors
« on: March 02, 2005, 05:17:12 PM »
Hello, I am currently experiencing a problem with Avast 4 SBS: version 4.5.345 installed on SBS2003.

I am getting persistent error messages on screen:

"Avast! connection timeout
Internet connection timeout elapsed continue waiting?
inetinfo.exe - ipaddress:25"

When you click out of the error message it pops back up a minute later.

The installation has been running for quite a few months without any problems and this error has just started today.

I have three Avast services running:

Avast anti virus
Avast IAVS4 control service
Avast Mail scanner

Any ideas why this is being caused and what I can do to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Simon

exact same problem here with the latest download version with updates installed. XP sp2 with all updates no addintional software firewall installed. Tried increasing timeout in Outlook and in the avast ini....no change. The error really get's annoying.

gravityburn, you need to turn off the "Internet Mail" provider. It is not meant to run on servers (especially mail servers). It's a client-only provider.

To protect your mail traffic (Exchange), use the SMTP 2000/2003 and Exchange 2000/2003 providers.
The Server Deployment Wizard should help you set up the protection (it's accessible from the avast group in the Start menu).

tmorg, do you also have "avast! Server Edition"? If not, could you please use a different thread in the proper forum category?

Thanks

The Avast was installed by the Client and it seem they installed more than needed. I was able to right click on the Avast Icon - Stop Providor and Stop Internet Mail as well as MS SMTP. We are now running just the Exchange 2000/2003 service. Is this correct and how would I stop the Internet Mail and MS SMTP providor from restarting once the Server is rebooted?

You should be asked if you want to stop the provider permanently or until restart, when you are stopping it. If you are not asked, go to avast settings/Confirmations, enable 'ask whether to persist changing resident provider status' and then start & stop the provider again.

MS SMTP 2000/2003 can (should) be enabled.
Internet Mail not.
