"Unable to start firewall" message
« on: February 28, 2010, 02:31:59 PM »
I've suddenly started getting the message "Unable to start firewall". All was well before yesterday and I've not changed anything.

The Avast Firewall service is set to start automatically, but is not started. When I try to start it manually, I get

Can anyone suggest a reason for this or how I might investigate the cause of this service failing? Any logs anywhere I can view?

Thanks

Pete

I would do these two things:

1. Ensure that the Windows Firewall is turned off.
2. Go to "Control Panel" -> "Add/Remove Programs" -> choose Avast! -> choose "Repair".
3. Reboot

Not sure if this will help but certainly worth a shot.

Let us know if you get it working.

Good luck . . . .

I get the same problem on XP SP3 - but not if I log in as an administrator.

I got the same message a couple of times doing a reinstall of the Security Suite. I tried repairing but it didn't work. I finally used the Avast 5 uninstall tool and removed all traces of Avast. I did another install and now it works fine and dandy... :o 8)

Don't forget to reboot your system after the repair finishes. :)

Isn't the reason we have Avast so that we don't have to deal with stuff like this?
