AvastUI.exe - Application Error

Had Avast for a while now, and no complaints, until today.  Got the following popup:

AvastUI.exe - Application Error
The instruction at 0x0142738a referenced memory at 0x00000003.  The memory could not be read.

Only thing I would not do, is a system restore.  You should know Avast! does not like that, and will likely fail to start after a system restore.

As the article author states, could be buggy software (Avast!).  You may need to uninstall and use this uninstall utility in safe mode only (please put the executable on the desktop!)  http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and remove all versions of Avast! you have ever run.

Uninstall Avast! in Programs and Features or Add/Remove first, then aswclear.exe (safe mode)

Suggest using a second computer to download aswclear.exe and fresh copy of Avast! along with securing your license ahead of time if paid.

this is exactly what happen to me too. Did you get the error right after you start your computer? did you put your computer in hibernate before you started up? I got the same error right after I start my computer. Please see this thread.
