Installing over existing Avast Free AV v5 - using setup_av_free.exe offline

I tried to install v5.1.684 over 5.0.677 using the setup_av_free.exe for v5.1.684 downloaded beforehand. I wanted to do this update offline but when I started the installer, whatever option I chose appeared to try to connect to an avast server, and kept trying. It appears it is at least trying to check for the latest version. I could find no option to just make it install. I do not understand how this could work for a beta version.

I achieved what I wanted in the end by uninstalling v5.0.677 and then installing v5.1.684 offline using its setup exe. Trouble with this is all settings revert to default and the licence key has to be added again.

Am I missing something in terms of a setting, or can an update be done offline only by uninstalling the previous version?

It seems that it should have worked the first way you tried but it did not.
I think the difference is as you said. You were doing it off line.

Anyway, you got it installed and that is what counts.
