Remove email restriction
« on: February 05, 2012, 06:20:11 PM »
When I receive emails with a hyperlink, I am unable to click on the link to open in a new page. I receive the message: "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

I never had this problem until downloading Avast Free. Please tell me how to turn this one feature off so I can open links from my email!

It has nothing to do with avast as it doesn't change your email settings, much less your security settings.

It is more likely that you don't have a browser set up as the default browser in your email program, etc. this would effectively block the ability to connect.

You don't say what email program you are using ?

yeah as said Avast doesn't have such a setting. This restriction either comes from your email client settings (only accessible by an admin) or some sort of rule implemented by an admin on your system.

Well I don't use MS Outlook (not Outlook Express), so I can't speak from personal experience. So I would suggest a google search for 'Microsoft Outlook default browser' and see if that returns anything.

Here are some hits I got on this search:
- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/177054, whilst that relates to Outlook Express, I guess the principal is the same.

Thanks. Still not certain this isn't an Avast error.

I have MS Outlook set as my default email client. As I said, this problem didn't exist until I downloaded Avast so I can only believe the problem lies therein.

I'll keep you posted regarding what I find.

You're welcome.

But there really is no functionality built into avast to change the email or system settings.

We aren't talking about your default email program (as you have that open) when you click on a url in an email, that is supposed to open your default 'browser' that is what the two links I gave are all about, setting the default 'browser.'
