I can't find any reference to this error code in the forums and especially the Topic relating to avast! error codes http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=5719.0. I also couldn't find a windows error code matching this either.

Are you sure that this is correct ?
Was there any other information in the error message ?
I assume it was a virus detection on scheduled boot-time scan, if so what was the virus name and the file name and location ?

42111 means "Operation is not supported for this type of archive". So, you are trying to remove a file from an archive, and avast! is unable to do so for this particular archive type (could be a solid RAR archive, for example).
What is the full path of the detected file?

Thanks Igor,

Perhaps someone could update the avast! error codes Topic (created by PK, link above) ;D it is quite a long time ago that it was last edited July 2004.

I have also gottin this error message. The message came up when I was doing a boot scan. Got the computer from my pops and he had had TaxCut 06 on it at one time. Went threw the Add/Remove Programs and it wasnt listed. Can't remember if it had a Trojan attached but the only option that will be accepted is "Ignore", or "Ignore All". And we all know that that wont fix anything. Also tried to go into Command Prompt and delete it there but I didnt see it? But then I did a Windows File and Folder search and geuss what it was there, at least 3 different times? Could this be a virus that is too much for "Avast"? Or could it be one that programers did not know about?

Apart from this topic is over 4 years old, as far as I'm aware this error number explanation given by Igor is still correct.

Without knowing the file name and full path no one can say why this error might have been reported ?

The other crucial issue is why would you want to remove it ?
If it has been detected as malware bay avast, then what is the malware name ?
