Script Shield is only good for Microsoft IE.
I think (not sure though) it deals with ActiveX scripting.

Not entirely correct, there are two other supported browsers, Mozilla (not firefox) and Netscape.

Also the script shield isn't only for the internet but for off-line scripts such WSH (Windows Scripting) and presumably as you mentioned activeX scripts.
...Internet Explorer only, 32-bit only....

Nothing about any offline functionality, simply ONLY inside IE.  Its still coming from IE if its a stored web page...the script wont become active unless you open the stored page with IE..as far as Avast protection dictates, or ask them to update the web page information.
