Easy to detect when Android Task Manager pops up
« on: February 29, 2012, 12:17:53 PM »
I just installed Avast Mobile Security (then uninstalled everything but the Anti-Theft component to ensure it wasn't obvious that my phone was being monitored.)

Unfortunately there is still an easy ways of detecting whether the software is installed:

Android Task Manager alert pops up after 45 minutes, warning that the program with <custom name> (the name I chose during installation for use as the App Disguiser) has been running for a long time - do I want to close it?

Upon examination of this application (as you would naturally do if you didn't know what it was) in Settings -> Applications -> Running Services, the process list is shown, in which avast.android.antitheft is listed as the main process.

I therefore have three questions:

1) Should this task be running, or can I close it (i.e. is it necessary to have it running to respond to the remote operations)?
2) If it is necessary to be running, is there a way of turning off the long-running task warning for specific tasks?
3) It possible to somehow rename the process (on installation) to the custom name?

Cheers,
Rich

So if I close anti-theft in the task manager I can still use all of its functions in case of theft?

If so, then what is this running process for anyway?

Sorry to bump an older thread. Thanks for your help in advance.

actually if you have no task running the process should close itself down.
do you have the newest anti-theft version installed?

Yes I do. But anti theft is still in my task manager after setting it up.

It will get shut down automatically after some time. Or do you see it after a reboot as well?
