Title: uninstall hidden files of avast

i had uninstalled avast anti virus. it does not show up in the control panel but when i tried to install another anti virus, it asked me to remove the avast file in the hard disk. i am unable to find this hidden file of avast to install a functional anti virus. please help

In these instances, the avast! uninstall utility is recommended. It can be found here:

If you can not help, then

Program Files / ALWIL Delete directory
Win7: Program Data / ALWIL Software folder Clear
WinXP: Documents and Settings directory, locate and delete ALWIL library.
Run / regedit (search Avast, delete keys)

If I understand correctly you are suggesting an alternative if the uninstaller doesn't work?

Personally, I would avoid messing with the registry...could cause more harm than good...

What would have been helpful would have been, if the other AV said what it found and zoro192009 reported what that was "it asked me to remove the avast file in the hard disk".

The best option is to run the uninstall utility.

Not necessarily from Avast is.
Other programs may also be the problem.
It is true that: UNINSTAL utility.
But it's still the remaining files to be deleted somehow.
Before the backup and restore point creation of the proposed.
