What about this security add-on: Interclue?
« on: November 02, 2008, 05:55:27 PM »
Hi malware fighters,

Who is using interclue to pre-check his links in Firefox?
Interclue allows you to hover your mouse over a link and get a summary of what is there and whether it’s a dead link. It will also warn you of malware and phishing sites.
http://interclue.com/

What are your views about it? I like to hear,

polonus

Cybersecurity is more of an attitude than anything else. Avast Evangelists.

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!

I haven't tried it, but my only concern would be if it does any pro-active data gathering for links on a page, that could seriously crimp a dial-up bandwidth, what little there is of it.

Hi Tech,

I am trying it out at the moment. It gives you valuable information about a link before you actually click it.
So you can sort of pre-scan it. You can disable the add-on whenever you like for certain sites/periods. I will give it a try, and see what I can find with its inner workings. It gives you information of the link, if it is an active link you can feed back information about the safety (whenever you have this), the thumbnails seem to come through smartdevil.com 67.228.188.60 : http://www.thumbshots.org/Community/Articles/tabid/93/EntryID/11/Default.aspx

Unfortunately you need to use Firefox in order to use it....

I still can't get FF to change it's focus to the current tab.  :'(

Hi folks,

Well I have tested it out long enough now.... Leave your hands off of Interclue now, because it is not adding substantially to your browser security. Anti-phishing in Firefox is the best there is by default. Then there were two alarms about a self written security certificate trying to connect on port 443, e.g. for www.mozy.com. These are things I do not like, and now while everything passes through their servers I have some additional privacy concerns as well. Nice idea Interclue, but again at this time not my kettle of fish,

Well, I used it a while but after my third reformatting this past month (Returnil + Windows Update conflicts caude BSOD) I decided not to install it anymore. For High Speed Internet with 20 GB capacity, it's no use, I want to see content (secure content, of course). The privacy issue? I did a lot of netbanking with Interclue on and it changed nothing. I think it's secure enough. Best suited for intermediate internet (600 Kbps) ;D It's not a security add-on. It's not its purpose! ;)
