He's running Windows XP SP3 64 which has been completely rebuilt.

Impossible.
Either it's XP 32bit with SP3 or XP 64bit with SP2.

It's not impossible.

It is, as there's no SP3 for XP 64bit.

It's not impossible.
Microsoft has never released SP3 for 64-bit Windows XP. There is SP3 only for 32-bit version of Windows XP.  ;)

If your "Tech" installed SP3 onto your Windows XP 64 bit system, then I'd start looking for a new "Tech"  :)

We may not be Techs but most of us have used computers for some time.
Some of us remember what it was like before there ever where any computers.
We even know how to do math in our heads and come up with the right answer.  :)

Updated ok on mine. Windows xp sp3 32bit windows. No problem. Could be a bug? for 64bit versions?. Tested beta versions and were ok?

Well 64bit versions of XP are rarer than rocking horse droppings and is only an option on XP Pro OS that have a 64bit version. The greatest majority of XP OS are 32bit versions.

Confirming a bug on Win XP 64b - none of 32b apps will start because of Behavioral shield. Turn it off or wait for fix, please.
It's so rare os that we skipped it in the latest testing rounds to save a time... And a new bug appeared. We are sorry for inconvenience :(

Lukas.

Updated via UI over 7.0.1472 RC, working fine so far except FF WebRep function.

The avast's WebRep plugin for FireFox is unfortunately not working in build 7.0.1473. It's been fixed already and we'll release the fix soon.

So I did the
Avast Free 1473
update on my Dell XPS 1340 laptop (Core 2 Duo, 4gb ram) running
Win7 Ultimate 64 bit SP 1
with Windows Defender security software installed and Windows won't load. I can't even get into Safe Mode. I ran the windows reinstallation dvd to search for the problem and the disks detects no errors with startup.
THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM for me. I've read some of the other posts and suggestions about downgrading but that's not something I can attempt. I've never had a problem with previous updates.
The bios loads and then the screen hangs and is black with the cursor flashing. I didn't experience BSOD and this happened after the initial request to restart the system from the GUI managed upgrade.
Any more insight would be greatly appreciated

just Windows defender as mentioned
I've seen the other "security" softwares people use but I trust Avast that much! and I don't keep any private information on this system.

I too am having outlook issues sending email since the update (Outlook 2007) worked fine before.  I am new to this site so I am not sure how to find answers to my problem.  Please steer me to any posts about solutions to this issue.
Thank you.
