Post by: davehat on December 14, 2012, 08:38:14 PM
hi
ive just removed the virus/trojan win32:sirefef.zt after folowing your guide.
i ran avast & scanned again this time no virus/trojan was found but the results came back with a meesage that some files could not be scanned, this did not happen last.
am i still infected?
the files that can`t be scanned are in the temporary internet files if this helps. i also have the scan results for removing the virus

Not sure which guide you used, if this one http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0) then, this should have been used under guidance to ensure full removal.

Files that can't be scanned are just that not a determination they are infected or suspect, but without full information file name, full location and reason why they couldn't be scanned then no one can say.

yes that was the post big oops
the files say error: archive is password protected (42056)

C:\Users\ClaireBird\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\ZHIDFHRO\install_flashplayer11x32ax_gtbp_chrd_aih[1].exe|>images\bgBody.png

my main querry is these files weren`t password protected in the last scan why would they be now?

Adobe password protects its updates, so this is normal. You can clear the Temporary Internet Files and remove all of these files.

It is likely that on your last scan they weren't present as it is only recently that a new flash player update was released.
