Avast & Wireless
« on: April 15, 2008, 11:00:22 AM »
Hi. I wonder if anyone can help. I installed Avast and for some reason it blocked my wireless connection. So I uninstalled the wireless, reinstalled it. Then when I put the usb key in it didn't recognize it. Tried all usb ports etc. all eventualities, reinstalled a load of times. It's buggered basically and I have no idea  how to fix it. Its so annoying!
Thanks in anticipation. ???

We will need more information to be able to help you:
- Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
- What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number?
- Do you use a firewall? Which one?
- Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?  Did you have in the past?
- Any other security programs that could interfere?
- In XP/Vista, is there any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially 'Errors'?

Hello,

I think I have the same problem.
Since I installed Avast, sometime I am unable to connect to my Wifi router.
When I stop On-access protection I am able to connect via Wifi.

My OS is windows XP FR service Pack3. My labtop is a compaq notebook 6820s.
Windows is uptodate via microsoft update manager.

Can you help you ?

I repeat some questions...

- Do you use a firewall? Which one?
- Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?  Did you have in the past?
- Any other security programs that could interfere?

So avast shouldn't being blocking anything related to your router/WiFi...
It's weird... avast is just an antivirus, not a firewall...
Did you have any other antivirus before avast?

before I used Norton Antivirus Corporate (I think it was the version 9.0).
I uninstalled this one before installing Avast.

I was pointing Avast because when I disable the on-acces protection the wireless connection is ok.
When I use rj45, I have no problems. This happens only with the wireless connection.

My labtop is on dual boot and when I use linux Operating System, both connection are ok.

I uninstalled this one before installing Avast.
1) Remove Symantec products through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
2) Use Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista. Boot.
3) Install avast! (or repair the installation) and boot.
