Avast & Apache
« on: September 13, 2011, 10:09:03 AM »
Since version 5 can't remember the update number, Avast has been blocking my Apache server from starting up.  No I don't know what you guys have done Avast, but blocking anything else from start on port 80 really is an annoyance.  I like the way I set up my server... Don't see why I have to go change the port settings for my apache to work again.  Thought version 6 would have fixed this problem, but it seems the avast dev team is not listening to anyone... so off it goes from my system...

Its a shame, I have been using avast for over 4 years now and I have loved every minute of it.  Never been hit with a virus.  But this blocking of port 80 takes the biscuit...

Avast definitely doesn't listen on port 80, i.e. it does not prevent other applications to listen on this port either.

To find out which process is listening there, please use e.g. tcpview from Sysinternals.com (now part of Microsoft), or even netstat (built into Windows).

Thanks
