Title: Cant send messages in Windows Live Mail Error ID - 0x800CCC0B
Post by: hopekeeper on February 15, 2012, 12:37:41 PM
I have Windows 7, Using Windows Live Mail. After installing Avast I can no longer send messages.  I get this error message
An unknown error has occurred.

Subject 'Fw: Valentine's Day — History.com Articles, Video, Pictures and Facts'
Server: 'smtp.gmail.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0B
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): Yes

I have tried many different options that I have found on the net about this.  Like: uninstalling and reinstalling Avast without Outgoing mail protection, Changing Port settings to 567, 465, changing the SSL to No & Yes.  Nothing works so far.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

You need to set the incoming and outgoing security to none in windows live mail client so that avast is able to handle the security for you.

Look at your settings ,  SMTP, Port 25 and SSL  is the problem.

Tried that, it doesn't work.  Same message.

To add a Gmail account, change your Gmail settings to enable POP access before adding the account, then set the incoming and outgoing security to none in WLM.

This does not apply.  I have been using gmail in my WLM for a couple years now.  No problems with sending until I installed Avast.  What if I just turn off Avast Mail Shield.  I am going to give that a try and see what happens.
Nope that didn't work either.
I am going to check on gmail and see if they are having trouble with their smtp server.

When was avast installed? Is this something recent, or this was working correctly before, also with avast was already installed?

What other security tools you have installed? Which antivirus you used before avast? Uninstalled? Removed the potential remnants with the respective removal utility? Firewall?

I have used avast previously about a year ago, and then decided to test out Window Security Suite.  Went back to avast about 3 or 4 days ago.
Firewall is Windows Firewall.  Did not have trouble with Windows Security, just liked Avast better so went back to it. Now not so sure it was the best move.
I changed to IMAP  for my default account and it seems to be working now, but I don't like IMAP, would prefer POP3.  I have avast to only check inbound mail and that works.

I don't know if having both antivirus tools may be related or not to the original problem.

Even if you didn't use both tools at the same time, some remnants of any of them may conflict with the other one.

In any case, I would suggest reading the respective information about how to get rid of remnants after uninstalling any/both security tools.

Also, for me, it was not so clear if the problem is related to the email client, or to avast mail shield. Had you tried stopping only the mail shield of avast? What about other shields? Well, now such suggestions are of no use, since avast is no longer being used.

Again, in any case, read the info for the remnants and run each respective removal utility that applies to tools you are not using anymore (but uninstall first).

Thank you, will do that.  Just so you know, it is never good to run two anti virus programs at the same time.  They see each other as a threat.  I will see what I can do about any remnants and see if it makes a difference.

Yes, I know, but it was not clear to me, from your post, if both tools were installed and active at the same time, or if you uninstalled one and only then installed the other.

As I said, uninstalling security tools may not be enough in some cases, so running the removal utilities after uninstalling is recommend.
