I've just started using the new Avast Home antivirus after using AVG 7.5 for ages.
A couple of questions on Avast
1. VRDB. I've read the info regarding this and am generating a database at the moment. It has been running for about 2 hours and don't know how long it's surposed to take - any ideas ? How and where can I check if this database is complete
2. Will avast conflict with Zone Alarms free firewall and Threatfire which I'm also using ?
Thanks

1. I don't recall my first VRDB generation taking very long at all, though my system doesn't have that many programs installed on it.

How did you start the VRDB scan, was it by generate now, that should be the quickest ?
A little about your system would be helpful, like OS, CPU, RAM, how many hard drives, qty of data, etc. ?

2. There should be no conflict, though I feel there are better free firewalls than zone alarm.

The vrdb scan has finished. It actually took only 30 minutes not 2 hours ! My apologies but I fell asleep during it !

Why can't I access the 'Last scan results' or the 'view scan reports' from the system menu ?

That sounds much better, but still a long time I feel, my subsequent VRDB generations take a little over 10-11 minutes. I have mine set to run under the screen saver but since I don't use one it won't run so I run it manually every three weeks (which is the default period 21 days when generated automatically) as a part of my system maintenance.

Last scan results in the Home version are only available during that Simple User Interface session after your on-demand scan, these are some of the restrictions of the Home/free version. There is more functionality in the pro version if this is something you feel you need.

Threatfire could bring difficulties to other programs from time to time, like Firefox extensions for instance. You will need a powerful system to run avast, ZA and Threatfire or the performance could be, somehow, reduced. But they won't conflict.
I suggest PCTools or Comodo as free firewalls. Also, Comodo with Defense+ will replace Threatfire.
