Why doesn't aswclear5.exe work, e.g. what errors are you getting ?

Did you run it from safe mode as recommended on the page that you downloaded it from ?

Welcome to the forums, johnnedia   :)

Did you try to use aswclear5.exe in safe mode? From the avast web page ...

Quote

How to uninstall our software using aswClear:

1. Download aswClear5.exe on your desktop
2. Start Windows in Safe Mode
3. Open (execute) the uninstall utility
4. If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of      any folder you choose will be deleted!)
5. Click REMOVE
6. Restart your computer

Check your computer for Malware with

Malwarebytes Antimalware http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
after install click UPDATE and run quick scan, click on REMOVE SELECTED to quarantine anything found

SUPERAntiSpyware http://filehippo.com/download_superantispyware/
Are cookies really spyware and are they dangerous?

If anything is found come back and post the scan logs here

The aswclear5.exe has a number of uninstall utilities for the avast 4.8 and 5.0 range of applications. It has a drop down list to select which version to uninstall when you run it.

Thanks DavidR. I downloaded both uninstallers, which are different, but didn't launch them. Good information for the future. :)
