Bluescreens after update 4.5.523
« on: November 17, 2004, 03:30:39 PM »
Since I updated my Avast 4.5 Home edition to version 4.5.523 Avast has a conflict with Norman Personal Firewall 1.3.

One or two times per hour I become a bluescreen:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP (0x000000D1)(0x000002BE,0x00000002,0x00000000,0XF1FF7245)

Tdi_rd.sys (Norman Personal Firewall 1.3)

When I reinstall Avast and refuse the update everything is working fine.
No other things are installed/changed.

My OS is WinXP Pro SP1

Anyone with the same problem?

wdv: I got answer from Norman Personal Firewall team you should upgrade your firewall to v1.42 version, because they had some problems with TDi driver in v1.3 which you're using.

If you have other problems with NPF in future, please let me know.

It is also recommended to keep your system up-to-date with ALL security patches/updates and that includes SP2.

Yes, the clock is ticking - and blue screen will apear ;) if you use the old v1.3 of Norman Personal Firewall (i suggested you to update or change firewall). The problem wasn't in avast (so update won't help), BSOD was in your firewall driver.

avast! 4.5.529 is already out. Why did you update to 523 ?

See here for info:

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=9007

And btw, listen to PK. Your firewall has new update. Driver that 1.3 was using was the problem, update and you're back on track...

My Avast is updating (program update) automatically so if there is a new version it will be updated soon I think.

I forced a program update but it told me that there are no new versions

You are still not listening what we advised you. There is no automatic update on this one. Just click on that link I gave you and read what VLK (Alwil team) said in there. Download that little file to your computer and start it manualy. It will update your avast! to 4.5.529.

Again, you won't see any automatic update on this build (4.5.529), you have to do it manually...

Have you updated your firewall to 1.4 ? 'cause if you didn't, pretty soon you'll get same problems.

I do not have any reason to update to a beta version.

It's working fine now and I noticed that the known problems are not jet solved by the new version.

My bluescreen problem seems to be solved because my PC was steady for the last 24 hours.

I replaced an old image and the blue screen was back again (every 10 minutes).
I replaced the latest one back an my PC was steady again for hours.

wdv, I agree. It's pointless to use the beta unless you're desparately waiting for one of its fixes. Cheers Vlk.
