Question...
« on: December 02, 2004, 11:34:15 PM »
Hello together,
first, I have to say, that i'm from Germany and so I can't speak english so well. I've a problem with avast. One day ago I have updated my Firewall, it wasn't so easy as like an update by avast is. I use ZoneAlarm as my Firewall. Now I get all 5 seconds a yellow area. There it says, that avast have protected me from "DCOM Exploit", which wants to go into my system. How can I make it, if where is only a warning, that this yellow area doesn't comes?

Sorry for this bad english! If you can use some german words to explain me, I were very thanksful.

Hello,
thank you you for your help. I have found it, so I could disable the warning messages. But yesterday after I had enabled the connection to the Internet, I got a window, there the shutdown-counter was counting down. I have stopped this counter with shutdown -a. I don't know how the virus is called in english, but in german we call it "Sasser".
I have this Virus on my Computer. Than I have programmed one Counter for a "Boot-Zeit-Prüfung". But this hasn't find the Virus. Do you know, where I can find it on my Computer without many Problems?

Not sure for the place but many antivirus companies offer  free toos for the most popular infections like sasser.Do you have avast cleaner if not try to download it from avast web site and try with it.
Good luck ;)

avast should be able to remove this virus and the network shield will probably have blocked it as well. But it could be back because it is exploiting a vulnerability in windows that was patched by MS.

Ensure that your OS is fully up to date

Hallo blackpanther,

Hi blackpanter
If you saw a countdown, you've been infected by Sasser or Blaster. Avast has nothing to do with that. This is because you are connected to Interner without a firewall. Avast is not a firewall itself, it is a resident anti-trojans (Network shield).
