Avast came across a virus called Trojan-gen(VC) located in program files\save\save.exe and haven't a clue how to get rid of it!  I don't know the first thing about viruses and would be so grateful if someone could help!  Thanks

save.exe is a ad program see:http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_s.htm
you need to install some anti-spyware programs
spybot search and destroy

ad-aware

spyware blaster

spyware guard

Also get a firewall and e-mail filter

Mr. dee4626!

Apparently, in the program there is a part of a code of this virus (Trojan-gen (VC)). 8)  In the majority cases, it does not testify about infection of a computer. However this rule is true, if you have taken the program from a reliable source. I recommend to check up the program on a computer with the installed antivirus of other manufacturer. If other antivirus will show, that everything is all right safely use the program.

All told concerns only to Trojan-gen (VC). ;)

Majority of spyware is detected as Trojan-gen including this one. avast! is now extending its detection field to spyware and joke "viruses" that makes you scared when you see deleting windows folder, but in fact they are just simulating this. Harmless but very annoying.
Most of such things can be safely deleted via Pop-up menu(delete at next boot if necessary option) or with Boot-Time scan (NT systems only).
