Change Time Zone and Display Settings .. resolved
« on: June 22, 2012, 03:41:47 PM »
Where is the setting to change the Time Zone or Display Options ? ?
I looked in my profile and do not see any way to set it. I am in NY Time
zone or -5GMT on most forums. Please advise. Thanks

On the forum go to Profile>Look and Layout  and there you should see time off set click "auto Detect" I think that will change the time of the forum for you to the time what your computer says.. I'm EST (Eastern Standard Time) and the auto detect set it to -4  for me.

I am not certain if this is one of those cases where you need 20 posts before these functions are available or not.

Also, you may want to hide your email address.

I agree that's most likely the problem.  Since I can't say for sure either, is there a topic somewhere that specifies what you can and can't access in your profile settings before hitting the magic 20 posts?

@ bruce_b
I though that that was a default profile value to receive emails for topics that you either create or contribute to.

You can also click the Notify button at the Top and Bottom of each topic page, see image (click to expand). That will send an email to the email that you used to register on the forums, if you don't receive that, you will need to check your ISP/personal anti-spam to see if it isn't being received/deleted.

I found the Notify button and that does work. But it sends notifications of all new posts,
not just the ones I responded to or want to keep track of. Most sites let you subscribe
to any post, not all of them. Perhaps, as mentioned I need a certain amount of posts
before other profile options are enabled. I think I am at 12 or 13 right now.

Unfortunately that is how the notify button works (replies in the topic, not specifically to your post) and it is essentially how the Profile, Notifications works, it just gives a frequency option (see image1).

Personally I don't use this feature anyway, I just use the "Show new replies to your posts." link at the top of the page (image2). That option also is for new pots in a topic that you created or contributed to, not specifically replies to specific posts.

Since there's no board-software correlation between a post and a reply specific to that post, other than they're in the same topic, I don't think the Notify function could work the way you'd like (and I and others would like too, admittedly) anyway.

The only connection between the two posts that the software could possibly recognize is if you Quote rather than Reply -- and even then, I doubt if there's any way the admins could set up notification triggered by a reply-by-quoting.

This has been fixed .. seems you need to get to 20 or more posts
to see the forum and profile options .. Mods can mark as resolved.
