Is autosandboxme.exe test applicable to Avast!version 7
« on: July 28, 2012, 08:53:13 PM »
I used vlk's test: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=76650.0
on Windows XP-SP3 and free Avast! 7.0.1456

File system shield is high, Autosandbox set to Ask
It didn't ask, WHY???
But I got a tiny message - see inserted picture
It didn't install on C:\ and didn't go into the RUN key in registry but nothing got entered into the log.

Is the message what one would expect?
In v6 it all looked different.
Is the sandbox behavior changed from v6?

Edited- "insersted picture" is in Reply#3, I forgot to attach it

Because the file does not work in the latest version of the AutoSandbox. Just that.

For me autosandboxme.exe does not get sandboxed: no popups/alerts appears, C:\autosandboxme.txt is created.
Autosandbox itself is working, as running autosandboxme.exe from removable media triggers autosandbox.

I did as NON did and I did get the usual pop-up. From the flash drive not from the HDD. At least it "did" work.  :)

So the implication is that it checks only removeable media? Hard to believe, really. And picture in my post #3 does show some sort of a catch, just totally different behavior from v6 and different logging.
It's still not clear to me what Tech said, that it doesn't work in the latest version - the test file or the sandbox?

No, autosandbox checks not only removable media but also other things: you might be able to see it in the autosandbox.log file.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\log\autosandbox.log

Tech says test file is not working, not sandbox.
