Battery use
« on: July 28, 2012, 11:30:46 PM »
I have noticed that since I have installed AMS beta my battery has been decreasing a lot faster then if I was using AMS non beta. Has anybody noticed that or has that been bought up before?

I watched it for several days. The max I ever saw was 5% use, though mostly 1-2% as opposed to system, browser, Android, etc which use more. 5% was when I scanned over 10000 files internal and external card and that is a heavy duty job when you think about it. Otherwise zilch here.

Edit:
My numbers are from Toshiba Thrive, I forgot to say it.
Also, I hardly ever see Avast in the battery use statistics - on and off it is mostly 0-1%, sometimes 2%, and I see no impact that I could feel. Network meter is running here.

It's not a technical measure but rather a feeling. I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus running (now) CM 9 RC2.

Yeah likewise but you can always tell if something looks like it is being used faster then before and I think it is.

Hi,

if that is the case, could you try to uncheck the Network Meter checkbox in the Settings? Having this feature turned on might result in higher battery usage by the app.

What looks like is it working for me was for me to uncheck the network meter then check it after a while. It looks like if the network meter is the problem then it really needs to looked at again. Even if the security package is excellent the cost to battery life is a huge deal breaker to most people.

I'm testing... but, is there a technical way to measure the battery consumption? I cannot blame or applaud just for a feeling...

Not really but there are a few apps you can download from google play like watchdog for CPU use and trend micro longevity beta for programs that drain or have an impact on battery life.

Yes, it is and i am doing something right now. Seems you are right about CM9; there are some patches in the kernel from CM boys which is not very well handled by avast code. AOPK ROM is OK, but CM night builds and some builds of CM7 is showing such a behavior. May be the limit of the data update should be change. Anyway thx for report.

Yes. Anyway, this test feels like "follow the white rabbit" - no one can say what is real.

What is true is that there IS a battery sucking issue with the software. That is good enough for me. All I can do is point it out but thankfully it's not my job to fix it as I have done mine in pointing it out.
