NEVER GET CLOSE TO BABYLON (a very annoying adware)
« on: October 31, 2012, 05:06:53 PM »
A public complain of mine.
Even disabling the installation of this stupid (to not use a banned word here...) software it get installed, change the home page of browsers, the search mechanism, etc.
It comes bundled in a lot of applications (freeware) and it is very very hard to clean.
Go to hell Babylon Toolbar and others  >:( :(

The last two computers that I have looked at have had Babylon toolbar installed. Owners had no idea how it got there.

Do you know what it comes bundled with?

Well, I was testing some video converters and I don't remember.
But it's not a problem of the application but Babylon which passed through the non-checked options.
The Babylon uninstaller lefts tons of leftovers that got active and show its tentacles each boot... I HATE BABYLON.

Thanks Pondus. I've run it. But it does not remove the Firefox about:config entries. I had to manually remove them.

Thanks Speedy.
But reset the three browser settings is too much to me.
I'm trying to find a non destructive way to get rid of this ....

You could use OTL to clear the remnants (apart from Chrome..  )

Have you tried Malwarbytes Pro ??? You need to do a Full Scan.
It will find it and remove it.
Take a look at the following instructions for manual removal:

Hi!

First something of my history:
I had a problem with my computer (standing --> 'i.d. Heide') under XP Pro SP 3 and I tried almost everything to find the mistake.
Asyn gave me this link --> http://majorgeeks.com/WinSock_XP_Fix_d4372.html
and I should download the file 'winsockxpfix.exe'.
But I made a mistake and downloaded something with 'scan and repair'* and with this SW came 'BabylonToolbar' in my XP in spite of removing the little hook before 'BabylonToolbar'!!!
Asyn helped with the other link of 'AdwCleaner', so that I could get rid of all that stuff!

Edit: The name of the tool (*) was 'reimage.exe'!
