avast! 8 Public beta3
« on: February 14, 2013, 04:38:14 PM »
Hi all!

avast! 8 public beta 3 is now ready! The build number is 8.0.1478. A few things to point out:

You'll immediately notice the new GUI.  We are excited to hear your feedback
The Software Updater is a new tool for helping you keep apps up to date.  Give it a try :-)

There is a new product tier called Premier, it includes 3 new features:
•         Data Shredder for wiping files, drives, and partitions
•         Software Updater in autoupdate mode
•         AccessAnywhere for remotely connecting to your PC no matter where you are

There is also a Browser Cleanup tool; it's a great utility for getting rid of invasive toolbars.
In addition, avast! Ad Blocker is introduced; this feature allows you to block ads, simple but nice :-)

Other improvements have been made to our FileRep and WebRep to help keep identify new threats in near real-time.
And finally, our Streaming Updates make sure you have the lastes virus definitions.

We hope you will find avast! 8 to be a great product and we sincerely appreciate you taking part in the beta and sharing
your feedback with us. Please use our new https://feedback.avast.com (click 'Login', then 'Single Sign-On' and you'll be
logged in automagically if you are already logged in the forum or you'll be asked for your forum credentials).

Same crash at boot. Darn it.

Edit: The installer was not updated when I downloaded Pro. The installer I initially downloaded from the link provided was .1477. It is now .1478.

From now on, I will double check the version number before I install. 43 minute lesson learned.

System boots just fine now.

Updated Via Gui for now, might do a clean install later though..so far working well it appears, any issues come up i'll try a clean install and then if still have the issue, report it on feedback area

Only issue so far IE 10 keeps freezing when trying to browse sites, guess will end up doing a clean install after all soon here

It is probably cause of Webrep plugin issue. Please uninstall IE webrep plugin from avast! settings

Ok Will do that, and report back if solves that issue

Ok Webrep uninstalled, IE 10 Performance in Windows 8 Pro x64 back to normal, guess don't need a clean install on this one at all

Thank you so much

Installed via GUI on win 7 & 8
Worked well for both
Retained settings and licence
Will try on the XP VM later

Now waiting to see if auto updates occur on these systems as it was not working with last Beta

Ad Blocker page looks very much better than before, so does Ad Blocker icon.

One thing on win 7 I had to do a repair after the first boot as the tray icon failed to load, will do further reboots and check 8 in case it was just a glitch  ;D

Yes there's a fix for this as well in beta3.

Thanks

System lag appears to be fixed. No lag in FF, Chrome or laptop.  :)
Action Center still says virus protection is not monitored.  ???
Too early to report on either streaming or auto vps updates.  :)

Free GUI still needs contrast. It's like driving at night then coming up on another car with their headlights on "high beam".
This should have been fixed before beta2. Very disappointed.
