Text messages sent to the Czech Republic
« on: February 26, 2013, 01:45:13 AM »
I set up avast anti-theft about 3 weeks ago and yesterday I noticed two text messages sent to the Czech Republic to a number similar to the one on anwil's home page on my bill.

I don't remember being prompted by the software to allow these messages.

Can the developers shine a light on this please?

Update: the FAQ claims the text messages are sent by Anti-theft when the SIM card is changed but I have never even removed it.

Hello,

we informed you about the international SMS during the registration process with the my.avast.com account.
Starting with the next update of Anti-Theft you'll be able to disable the sending of these SMS. If you disable this option, our online portal won't know your phone number in case of emergency.

we need to send these SMS since a phone actually doesn't know it's own phone number. It only registers in your carriers network with the IMSI. To get the phone number, we need to send a SMS to our server.

regards,

Werner
