Mail Shield and Antispam not working

I have been trying since upgrading to Avast 8 Internet Security on Thursday to fix this and can not find how to do this.
At one point they did work, then stopped.

I have tried to do a repair several times, in both safe mode and normal mode. I did use the removal tool and did a clean install, both in safe mode and normal mode and still nothing corrects this.
I have Thunderbird 17.0.3, Win 7, MBAM pro, Superantispyware pro.
Use Hotmail, yahoo mail, gmail. Never had a problem with Avast 7 Internet Security.

Have tried several different setting configurations and none have worked.

What is the possible correct way to to make the Mail Shield and Antispam work properly ?

Hi, what do you mean by "not working" exactly ?

We have a thread about Avast 8 Email shield issues here, any similar symptoms maybe ?

Well, not working means exactly that, not working.

As in not scanning anything at all.

There were no error messages at all.

Thank's for the link, but none of it helps as I have read it before.

I will add, there are no entries for email accounts in the Mail Shield.

If I check the box for Scan SSL connections, Thunderbird will stall when checking for new mail.

Is there a way to enable internet session logging in Thunderbird before polling for new mail?  If so, that may help Avast with troubleshooting.  If you get a log, be sure to obscure any email address and log-in information.

Hello,
 If you are referring to the post for " change the Password Normal to Password Secure "  I do not have this choice in Thunderbird.

If you are referring to the post for " check if you have the avast certificate in Thunderbird " I do not have  "avast! Mail Scanner Root" certificate listed anywhere.
Note, I never received a error message.

If the certificate is not in the Thunderbird store, you need to add it manually as described here:

Please reread the second line in my reply above.

Again, I did not receive any error messages, and do not have this certificate anywhere on my machine.

The certificate is inserted into the Windows store only when the Mail shield is running and SSL scanning is enabled.

OK, I finally found it.
Your last post is the only one which states when and how it appears.

Now, what format do I choose to export it, and to where is it exported to ?

Update:

I did not have to export and import the certificate at all.
When SSL scan is not checked, it appears listed in the Servers Tab, only.  I receive new mail.

When SSL scan is checked, it appears listed in the Authorities Tab also.   I do not receive new mail.

So to me this Certificate is not the problem .


The original problem, of the Mail Shield and Antispam not working still exists.
