To S.Z.Craftec:
Thanks for the welcome and you are correct. The problem also exists on a clean install of winXP pro SP2 with ms antispyware and office 2003.
To Technical:
Ouch, someone’s impatient!
You should be aware that there are many reasons why an instant reply is not forthcoming just like I do not expect an instant fix to the problem. My life does not revolve around this forum, I have a daytime job, My ADSL link was down from 4pm Monday to 10am today, I have been spending time investigating the problem further.... etc. To me 29 hours can in no way be classed as never especially when I was expecting the next post from the Alwil team.
Anyway I now have a reproducible test case using:
Avast 4.6 Home Build Mar2005 (4.6.623)
VPS 516-1
1) Create a shared folder on a server
2) From a windows XP pro client (Note XP Home does not support offline folders) with Office 2003 installed connect to the share
3) Create a Excel or Word document
4) From explorer right mouse click the file and select make available offline
5) If this is the first time offline files have been used then complete the wizard using default options
6) Reopen the document and make a change
7) Save document
The system will then hang. This does not occur if On-Access protection is disabled. So is this an Avast or XP bug? I suspect Avast since when I was using AVG I did not see the problem but that was also pre SP2.
So far the only file type I've found that exhibit the problem are word and excel though I have not tried an extensive list. Could it be macro related?
Can anyone else reproduce the problem?
Is this a know problem?
Do you need more Info?
I am more than willing to do any further testing you require.
