Well just an fyi from my experience, I've been using IE since 8 and in the years I've used IE, I've never had one security issue or breach.
I use IE10 along side FF 22.  :)

Interesting discussions to follow. Well I have latest IE on windows 8 now, very fast.
I have a smartphone that comes with a Chrome OS - chrome there is very fast.
Now for Poland, where firefox has 44,4 % of the market, they gonna introduce the firefox OS smartphones.
Gonna be very fast and tweakable.
I can understand the IE position on a windows platform, as it is part of the OS, it must be fastest,
else coders and developers did a lousy job.
All browsers bend standards on the curves, IE has a bad reputation there.
What I miss in IE are security applications like NoScript and Safescript for firefox and chrome...
How is bing security versus google safebrowsing protection?

Hi all,

I believe that Firefox's freezing has to do with the amount of ram available. From my experiences, Firefox keeps some memory even after you close the tab.

Good observation,

Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available. There still are glitches.
A known bug is that firefox can hang on an unresponsive script, especially when using NoScript...
the script may give a hint on what extension may be involved here...

I have recently upgraded my memory to 4GB and firefox generally uses the same RAM as when I had 2GB, but it can get up to very high amounts. Earlier today on checking the task manager firefox had a Peak Mem Usage of 750MB, so on a system with less resources it could have a negative effect on performance/firefox.

I have not tried google chrome myself, but i have used comodo dragon which is a sort of chrome in different clothes.
Although dragon was fast and everything i still prefer firefox purely for its stunning good looks and incredible array of extensions.
Ive been loyal to mozilla for a couple of years now.

So firefox is my preferred browser and choice.

Jusdt my experience:

The reason Chrome is faster than Ff are the addons. Try Ff without addons and you will see for yourself.

I would really love to get rid off Ff myself, it does too many things I do not want ot do, and as you also experienced it freezes all too often, because the addons need too much time. But Ff without addons is useless. An insult is the so-called "do not track" function, that does not prevent tracking, it simply asks the advertisers that I would prefer not to be tracked. So, would they kindly not... What an idiotic insult!

But all of this will certainly not make me use anything from Google or M$, it is a simple and easy choice.

I wish there was a reasonable alternative, but there is not....

P.S: Did you know that IE10 (soon 11 ) is much faster, more stable and more secure browser than Chrome is.  ;D

Your not really pulling my bloody leg are you magna86 ;D or it just your IMHO ;)
I find IE10 a big dinosaur. Google is fastest even with the same extensions and add-ons than Firefox 22 on my Win7 SP1 (64bits) system. IE10 smart filter is as secure as is MSE4 and with the Webguard part of most AV I simply rely on fast Chrome. It's simply the fastest... ;D

Firefox runs the fastest on my computer.  I hate both Google Chrome and IE10.

I still believe that it depends on the amount of ram your computer has and your overall usage of Firefox everyday. I usually hit over 2gb memory easily by opening various tabs throughout the day since most of my work is web-orientated. This used to cause lots of problems with only 1gb ram.. the only solution I found was to restart Firefox and monitor it's overall ram usage until it needs to be restarted again. Firefox lags even more on my mother's XP with 512mb ram,

That is a good one, congratulations.....
