Why does Avast 8 detect these samples but Avast 2014 not?

Why are these detected by Avast 8 but not from Avast 2014?

Confirmed this in A virtual machine, definitely undetected.

VM is definitely infected, error message with no text on startup.
Used system is Windows 8.1 with no updates.

Some of the files are just over and over starting Internet Explorer to porn sites and other junk.
