Avast is off and I cannot restart it
« on: April 12, 2014, 08:09:57 AM »
Somehow Avast is off and I cannot restart it. Never happened before and I have used Avast Free for years.
The icon in the lower right corner of the screen is there but has a red x over it.
I right clicked and selected Open Avast user interface, but on that interface i cannot do anything.
Clicking on Start or Resolve all, does nothing.
Please advise.

Has your subscription perhaps expired ?
If not, perform a repair of avast and see if that solves it.

HI Hiker1 depending on the operating system you have if you windows vista go to your start menu and and click on control Panel and then click on Programs and features and then in the list of programs that comes up double clic on Avast and a window will come up in this window it has uninstall avast etc you want to look for Repair and then click on that and then click on next and let avast repair itself and then when it is done exit out of control panel and restart your computer and when you get back to the desktop see if the repair worked.

If you have Windows 7 go to your start menu and then click on Control panel and click on Programs and features and in the list of programs that comes up double click on avast and then the window that comes up look for repair and then click on repair and click on next and wait for avast to do its rpair and then exit control panel and restart your computer and when you get back to the desktop see if the repair worked on avast see if everything is in order in avast by double clicking on avast on your desktop and go into avast.

Hope this works good luck Hiker1

Thanks for your replies.
As you can see in my MBAM post above I have XP.
But I figured out how to get to repair, and after 2 tries, it worked.

Is your avast working properly now?
