New way to register home edition
« on: July 18, 2005, 08:48:43 PM »
I just had an idea  8)

Could the home edition be adapted to use PUSH technology to register itself?

Imagine the scenario: user installs avast home. User registers on website. User receives email with licence key. Internet Mail/Outlook plugin scans email and then automatically inserts licence key. Magic!  ;D

It would save users a lot of time and hassle with fiddling around with the about avast! box and copying and pasting the licence key.

User now very impressed with avast and spreads the word to his/her friends.

What do you think?

Excellent idea xistenz.
As you suggested in the other thread, this should be done for both Home and Pro.
It sure would eliminate all the cut and paste errors. :)

Really good idea!  ;D On the other hand I don't think it would be secure enough, especially for Pro version....  :-\

What about those that don't use POP3 based emails or they have them behind secure connections?

We were discussing this internally about 2 years ago...

However, what seemed to be a brilliant idea turned out to be quite questionable... the problem is that most people IMHO don't want to see similar "magic" because they don't understand what's going on... Basically, the feature would require some comprehensive GUI to let the user be informed (but not scared) about what's going on...

Maybe for avast 5...

BTW the number of questions related to "how do I insert the license key to avast" has dropped quite a lot recently, so it's really a big issue anymore...

Thanks
