Cybersecurity is more of an attitude than anything else. Avast Evangelists.

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!

An excellent program but NOT for the novice users.
Dial-a-fix Light 0.57.7 (FREE)

CLICK FOR A LARGER IMAGE
Dial-a-fix is a tool to assist advanced users with the repair of various Windows problems,
such as problems with Windows Updates, COM/ActiveX object errors, WSH, VBscript,
and Jscript issues, broken Windows system applications and more.
We need to stress the fact that this program is not intended as a casual tune-up or fix-all software,
but specifically aimed at technical users that have at least a fairly good idea of what kind of problem
they are trying to fix. Dial-a-fix applies solutions that are based on Microsoft Knowledgebase articles,
Microsoft MVPs, and other repair solutions from selected support forums.
The program`s primary philosophy is to fix problems by setting various things back to their Microsoft defaults.
It also includes shortcuts to several common fixes like flushdns, repair IE,
reset the Windows firewall and others.
Direct downloads available at:
http://djlizard.net/software/Dial-a-fix.exe

Note: The full edition is available at Dial-a-fix Full

ShellFTP is a small FTP uploader that integrates into the Windows Explorer
and allows you to upload selected files to an FTP server via the right-click menu.
It supports multiple server configurations and passive mode. A unique feature is the ability to automatically
create thumbnail images (if you are uploading images) and an option to generate BB or HTML tags that link to the uploaded files,
so you can simply copy and paste them into your message board post or HTML code.
This is how I set it up on my system:

Direct download availabe at:
http://www.shellftp.de/files/ShellFTP_0.6.exe

I've also made ShellFTP_0.6.exe available at MySharedFiles

Enjoy  :)

The latest version can also be installed onto a USB flash memory drive.

DriverMax enables you to backup and reinstall all your Windows drivers.
If you need to reinstall Windows, you can easily install all your drivers
from the backup without having to insert or search for your original driver CDs.
You can choose to backup/install all your drivers or only selected drivers based on several filters
or manual selection. DriverMax can export the drivers to a folder of your choice,
and optionally compress them into a single zip file.
Free registration required after 30 days.

Vista Transformation Pack: Vista-ize your XP

It is a theme generated by a sweet little app called Vista Transformation Pack (VTP). It turns XP into Vista, at least visually. The VTP is a slick one-stop shop install that transforms just about everything to look like Vista. The login screen, the toolbar, the windows, sounds, screen-savers, and even wallpaper. I love the look and feel of the Vista components, but love the stability and widespread use of XP, this is the closest I will get to Vista. It even includes a transparency function to mimic Vista's Aero Glass. The VTP installs fairly easily, is free and seems to run seamlessly with not a hiccup so far on my machine. Note that VTP does mess with Windows system files and may rearrange your icons, but there is a detailed warning during the install process, so you can see all it does. Didn't harm my machine at all, so good luck! Here is the list of things it will Vista-ize on XP:

    * Boot screen
    * Welcome Screen / Logon Screen
    * New msstyles files (visual styles)
    * New desktop and file icons
    * New toolbar icons
    * Progress Dialogs
    * Sounds scheme
    * System Tray icons
    * New Wallpapers
    * Windows Media Player Skins
    * And much more

There are a few styles in the display properties to choose from so find the one you like best. Enjoy.

Ok, but after installing it, can we use the 'old' XP styles like Homestead or Media Center (Royale) or not?
The best things in life are free.

Speed Test

Ever experience slow Internet speed or Web page loading times? Pretty much all of us have.
What's extremely difficult to figure out is what is causing the problem. Is your Internet connection slow?
Is your wireless network connection not working correctly? Is someone else in your house downloading
large files and using up all of the available bandwidth?

Network Magic gives you a quick way to speed test your Internet connection,
and diagnose what your problem may be if you are experiencing below average speed.

Includes 30-day trial of Premium features

I personally use both of these products and am extremely impressed how easy it made network management.
I purchased the pro version of Network Magic back in Jan. of this year.  :)
