Large emails
« on: November 15, 2005, 09:47:28 PM »
HI all :
I am unable to send large email's (2.5M) or better

Using Thunderbird 1.5  I get a   "Send Message Error"

The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server 127.0.0.1 failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify your SMTP
Server setting is correct and try again, or else contact your network administrator.

I had this problem with earlier version 1.0.X and found somewhere to increase the
timout on user.js file which follows:

// Increase pop3 timeout:
user_pref("mail.pop3_response_timeout", 5000);

It worked just fine after that, now I am using V 1.5 it has reverted back to the same
problem, I tried increasing the value 5000 to 15000 still not working.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Using Windows98 SE

Thanks in advance
mm

You should increase both your avast! timeout: Internet Mail provider > Customize > Advanced (tab)
and your email account timeout.

Can you test?

Ooops.
Still having problems  :'(
How do I find the area to increase the timeout on Avast?
I looked through the avast4.ini and could not see it.
I know I am getting old and blind, it's got to be there somewhere.
If you could help it would be very much appreciated.

PS you mentioned can I test? The only area I found was for the different options
under Alerts:MAPI SMTP etc. is this what you are refering to? which btw when I test
it says unknown error the Alert cannot be sent.

Advanced tab of settings of the Internet Mail provider.

If the alert can't be sent so it's not working... maybe the firewall is blocking...
