Achieve two different mail account in avast4.ini file ??
« on: February 22, 2006, 11:09:09 AM »
Hi all,
i have a question.
Im a new user of avast- because of too many problems with the new Anti Vir (free) edition. And the avast program semms fine !!
 :) :)

I use two different e- mail provider/accounts and want to make sure that the incoming mails will be checkt by the avast mail protection.
One account is still working very well with the virus scan of the incoming and outgoing mails. I modified all the details in a right way.  ;D
But I also want to check the mails of te second accout too ( I have a second profile in my mail program)
Is it possible to achieve / modify this by manual setting in the avast4.ini file ?? If its possible- how can i do this?

Using Opera mail  ;) (latest version) and the Win Me Ed.   >:(my comp is old- only 866 mhz, 125 MB RAM)
Will be great to receive answers for my question
Thanks
Uwe

Uwe, welcome...
Sure it's possible, avast! works with multiple smtp/pop servers and can protect as many pop3/smtp server accounts as you want:

1. Configure your email accounts to work without the antivirus and test them.
2. If everything is fine, close all your email clients (programs).
3. Start Menu > All programs > avast antivirus > Mail Protection Wizard
4. Follow the non Outlook/Exchange option (i.e., the second one).
You can choose the supported email programs and select all the accounts
(even the ones created in the future).
5. Configure your email accounts to use avast! as antivirus.

Hi,
thanx for answering me,
but its not working this way.... (may be  because of opera ?)
I have to configure  manual- because my account isnt showing in the list of the wizard.
Then automaticly the "help" is opening.
My Question (for manual config.) is what i have to type in the ini.file:

\Programme\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\avast4
when I already have one account for example:

[MailScanner]
DefaultPopServer=pop.***.com
How is it possible to add here a second accout?
Sorry but I´m not professional in that area  8)
Have a nice day
Uwe

Default is exactly that, the default not only account.
You have more than one account in Opera and one of those is the default account. When you ran the the Mail Protection Wizard you should have ticked the include all future accounts, so newly created accounts are also protected. So you shouldn't have to manually edit the avast4.ini file.

Provided you have your you have your accounts set up in the same way in opera then they should all be checked.

The server address for both POP and SMTP should be set to 127.0.0.1
The POP server name set to: username#pop.isp.com (use the actual username and ISP info)
and... SMTP server name to: username#smtp.isp.com

You can go into the Help file within the Avast Scanner and look up Manual configuration.  It will take you through it step by step.  It is not hard to do.

Check the avast help file for Setting up mail Protection. Switch of your email client and run the Mail Protection Wizard - Or you can set it up manually.
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4 - look for, ashPopWz.exe - double click this and it will run the Wizard

No, Opera should work as the other mail programs, as far I could imagine.

I have to configure  manual- because my account isnt showing in the list of the wizard.
Ok, Opera is not recognized by default there.

My Question (for manual config.) is what i have to type in the ini.file:
Nothing. In the avast4.ini file will be ONLY the information about the default account (the one used to contact Alwil, send files from Chest, etc.). Your PERSONAL accounts will be set into the email program (Opera).

If you have Windows 98\Me, the change of the login settings is normal while using avast. See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=display;board=2;threadid=7913;start=0#msg64228

With Win98 SE you should have:

pop3 server= smtp server = 127.0.0.1
username = mail.server.coml#user or mail.server.com#user@server.com
smtp authentication enabled and the username there = mail.server.coml#user or mail.server.com#user@server.com
