Update to 4.7 - Best method?
« on: April 20, 2006, 07:57:11 PM »
Hi all:

I know the update process can be invoked from the program, bur my question is:

Is there any benefits downloading the whole 4.7 package and first remove 4.6,
before taking the step to 4.7?

I mean: does this method imply a cleaner install? ( Sorry if already asked.)  :)

HL

Edit: Reason for asking is that I am pretty sure I read something about this method a time ago being best when there was a major upgrade. (which I suppose this is).

I see it has been asked before, but is there any difference between the two methods?

Thanks

Reason for asking is that I am pretty sure I read something about this method a time ago being best when there was a major upgrade.

I think I've read that argument, too, but I've not subscribed to it.

The way I look at it is if the "easy" method was not sufficient it would not be offered as an option.

avast is generally fine to use the update process 4.6 - 4.7 isn't a really large update anyway.

Some people may advocate if you were running the beta release of some software to uninstall it before installing the non-beta release. This however, hasn't seemed to be a problem with avast.

For a truly clean install you would need to uninstall, boot, run the avast uninstall utility to ensure nothing is left, install the latest version and reboot. In doing this you would lose any of your customisations/personalisations and may be a little over the top. I would tend to use the program update function and only go for a clean install if I was experiencing any problems.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Glad you brought this up, hlecter. I was curious too, although I always use the program updater.
