RipIt4Me cuts like a knife through the butter
« on: July 20, 2006, 12:23:16 AM »
Hi forum members,

Thinking about  troublesome DVD protection with the SonyRootkit as the bottom line. This little tool from: http://www.ripit4me.org/ is free and makes ripping your favorite DVD  for a private (security) copy (which by Dutch law is a legal thing to do) easy as peanuts.

Hi Bob3160,

This is what I get on the download link:

Dr.Web (R) daemon for Linux v4.33 (4.33.0.09211)
Copyright © Igor Daniloff, 1992-2005

Last update time: 2006-07-20,22:02:46

File size: 83135 bytes

download.php - archive ZIP
>download.php/RipIt4Me.exe - OK
download.php - OK

Right download link

http://www.ripit4me.org/download.php

No problems unzipping this nice Israeli tool. Other possibility they may not like you to have it in the USA and corrupted the zip link (You can think of some organization that does not like their copy-protection schemes surpassed, starts with R.. you can guess three times, there is not much they will allow you to "tinker with" Read on this subject: http://www.freedom-to-tinker.com/?p=852 ).

PS If you can get hold of a copy of the software. You may put in on your website for it says:

Like it or not  it installed fine for me (also US) though I'm sure "they" would prefer it otherwise.

I guess the 4th download attempts must have been a charm..... :-X

After some serious debating with myself, and the advice of some others, I've come to the conclusion
that the DVD copying software isn't something I should make available on MySharedFiles.
Since I don't need the authorities knocking on my door for offering something that's not legal
as our current statutes are written, it's safer to err on the side of caution.
I've therefore removed it from that server.

Sorry Damien

Please note:
It's your responsibility to make sure it's legal where you live.

Hi Bob3160,

I can agree with you being on the safe side. I found this on an official Dutch site of one of the biggest ISP provider and Carrier in the land, so I felt no hesitation presenting it here. We have to abide by Dutch law, and only consider that has been printed in our Dutch language. So sorry for the Americans who have to stick by  their rules and all the tricks the Big Media 6 play on them to "make" them abide by these rules, with the Sony Rootkit example as "a miserable low".
This is a development of the last decade and Big Brother is coming in unhidden  at an enormous pace. The possibilities to tinker with anything are rapidly lost completely, even if you buy it, you buy only the right to use it, but not on your conditions, not even with your own money.

Give you an example how you are traced. See a lot of packets on port 443, https (normal not seen by any FW, it is a normal secure protocol), NAI Certificate Services for siteadvisor.com Policy Validation Authority Network, RSA public Root CA vII. rsakeonrootsign & rsasecurity.com 051021122142Z 071101101102142Z0X1 CPS Incorporated by references http://www.rsasecurity.com/products/keon/repository/certificate_status/RSA_Public_Root_CA_crl

------ and this comes and goes, they all play hand in foot.

Hi M2,

This is also a nice tool to protect your MP3 for others with the DRM tool from Ericson Sony: http://developer.sonyericsson.com/getDocument.do?docId=76997

A good initiative was set by Yahoo who presents MP3 without the DRM protection. look here:
http://music.yahoo.com/jessicaforyou/
Yahoo speaks of a revolution.
