According to Graham Ingram of the Australian Computer Emergency Response Team the most popular AV-solutions do not protect fully against new malware, because malware authors test their new creations against thiese AV-solutions not to be detected. This can go up to 80% of new malware, as reported here earlier.
So if you want to escape this vulnerability gap do not use Symantec, McAfee or Trend Micro. These big AV's use more than one av-application, but who has them all. My advice to you, leave the big brands for what they are,
