Has anyone else here been sent spam/porn messages through the avast web forum. It's very annoying.

Hi malware fighters,

Yes very annoying, and also dangerous when you open it on the wrong place in the wrong situation. Is not there a way to prevent this "nasty spim" for the future. I cleared all the data of this session in my browser, how to be sure there are no traces left on the machine?

No problem for me anymore. I just stopped accepting PM's!!!

Just put * in your block list.

No more PM spam!!! ;D

Edit: I just now saw that no-one can send pm's now unless they have 20+ posts. However, I don't need to use the PM's here.

But thanks, Forum administrator for putting an end to this nonsense!!! :)

I also received this sick SOB's message and was as disgusted as the rest of you. tried to contact the administrator but was unsuccessful then came here. The e-mail I tried to send is here if you wish to read it.

(Hello Administrator

I received the following message today in my regular mail account(not junk mail, where it should have been) I thought it had something to do with avast but it is nothing but blatant PORN! and frankly I thought that this is not what the forum is for. I also think that you should be aware of this since that is the only way this EdwardN could have gotten my e-mail with an avast tag . I am totally shocked and disgusted by it and I want to know what you are going to do about it. I look forward to your response and hope you are as shocked by it as I am.

Thank you
Firegi)

I see from the previous posts that it has already been addressed, thanks guys and, as we say in the navy, Bravo Zulu!

Lets clear this up, hopefully once and for all. You are NOT receiving and email from the PM Spammer, you are receiving a notification of having received a PM by the forum software. Unfortunately that email notification also includes the complete PM content.

You can also control this problem in your Profile, Personal Message Options, uncheck the option to be notified of PMs or you could take the nuclear option and don't accept PMs period.

However, that may detract from your use of the forums, but if as has been mentioned there is now a post count restriction on sending PMs that should resolve the PM spamming.

Wow…thread-building rush about the same subject, I guess.  I even wondered which one I should reply to.  ;)

I recommend making use of free web mail account services such as Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Hotmail.  Especially Gmail and Hotmail can be received through pop mail applications.  I keep a few mail accounts and even ditched my provider's mail account, letting it reject every single mail indiscriminately.  They have quite good spam protections and even when an account targeted by spam, I can ditch it anytime and make a new account.

I don't have a problem with email spam, because I've kept Earthlink's mailbox, although I've had Verizon Broadband for almost a year.

My mailbox is set to only accept email from those in my address book, the rest go into a suspect folder (and earthlink automatically blocked 300+ emails in the past 30 days).

You must have been mistaken, RejZoR.  I think quite many of us know that it is not Alwil administrators who sent the spam.  However, generally speaking, it is not recommendable to use email accounts without spam protections.  Also, I think it is not a good policy to use ISP mail accouts for Web fora.

I think what RejZoR was saying is that people should at least scan over the topics before making a new post. There way too many topics on the same subject because many are not doing this.
