Boot time access to Chest and restoration of system files
« on: September 12, 2007, 03:06:39 PM »
By the way, can anyone from Alwil answer my eternal question?
How to restore a system file needed to boot that was moved to Chest?
or, in other words,
How can access Chest without booting/logging into Windows? and be able to restore a file that was moved into Chest in boot time scanning?

Not possible, I'm afraid.

Are you thinking about anything of this on version 5?
Can't some features of BART CD being implemented into avast 5 (at least on Pro version)?

Well, from BART CD, it should be possible (to extract files from Chest). I can't really imagine any other solution (because if you can't boot, you can hardly access the files on the disk).

However, it's rather unlikely that (any part of) BART CD went into the free version of avast! (because of the license fees to Microsoft); regarding the Professional version - don't know; it's probably doable (though some users might have problems with the size - the BART's installer is quite huge, and the program updates may be pretty big as well), but it's a marketing/sales decision, not mine ;)

Thanks Igor.
A big encouragement to marketing/sales team.
Seems promising and necessary for recovery, even if the user has to pay. Maybe a third version, Home, Pro and Plus.
