Your Avast Virus removal experiences
« on: December 04, 2007, 12:59:19 AM »
For all you long term Avast users. What has been your experience with how well Avast is able to disinfect Viruses. I know AVG finally passed West Coast Labs Level Two Test which has to do with an AV being able to disinfect Viruses. I did not see where Avast made this Certification and was a little concerned. Still keeping Avast though. It is a very good program and runs well on my PC.

VRDB is how avast stores the necessary info to restore executables (*.exe, *.com) files.
VRDB is not a backup system, the stored information is very small (not the whole files).
Besides, only Win32 executables are processed.
So it's not a backup utility, but a restore feature of avast.
What avast can clean it does very well, i.e., it really cleans.
avast is not as good on cleaning as other antispywares (like SuperAntispyware, for instance).

I highly doubt that in this forum, you'll get a totally independent review any more than you can expect
an unbiased review of any other product in their forum.

I've used avast! for the past 3+ years. As far as I can determine, I have a clean system.  :)

I can post twice if it helps LOL. You just did. LOL. Seriously though, I didn't mean any offense with this thread. I was just a little bit concerned that Avast didn't receive a Level Two Certification from West Coast Labs. It may not mean much, but I saw that AVG did and well I would think Avast would too. Take care all.

There are other two or three threads discussing this and in one of them there is a link to a Vlk's post where he establishes why avast does not 'earn' this certificate. We, users, aren't that much worried due to the reasons Vlk gave.

Thanks Tech I'll look at the post, and I'm sure Avast is up to the job.

Indeed, on-demand speed is not one of the best avast features.
You will agree that most of us will be more worried with on-access (resident) performance than with the on-demand.
