I have been infected by svcsys.exe. It installed after I double clicked on my flash-disk and now I don't have access to my registry, task manager doesn't work and both my C-drive and DVD-drive disappeared out of My Computer. Worst of all Avast doesn't detect it, not even on boot-time scan with Archives turned on...any advice.

Can you use System Restore to return back to a previous system condition?
Before, if you can, send the file to virus (at) avast (dot) com for analysis.

Please follow the instructions for removing Trojans.

Windows NT/2000/XP/2003

In Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 you will also need to edit the following registry entries for each user who ran the virus. The removal of this entry is optional in Windows 95/98/Me. Please read the warning about editing the registry.

At the taskbar, click Start|Run. Type 'Regedit' and press Return. The registry editor opens.

Before you edit the registry, you should make a backup. On the 'Registry' menu, click 'Export Registry File'. In the 'Export Range' panel, click 'All', then save your registry as Backup.

Each user has a registry area named HKEY_USERS\[code number indicating user]\. For each user locate the entries:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\MSSYSTEM
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\MSSVC
HKCU\Software\FastWebTools

and delete them if they exist.

Close the registry editor.
