Hello,

I can't get online when Avast is installed.  Once I remove it then I have no problem getting on.

So, the question here, I suspect, is that Firefox or Spyware Doctor is interfering?

I have Windows Vista, the latest Firefox, Spybot, an expired McAfee AV and Spyware Doctor.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Best,

Bishop

Welcome to the forums Bishop,

Is this the absolute first antivirus program that you've ever had installed on your system?

Do you have a firewall installed (either software installed on your computer, or a hardware firewall).

If you've had an A/V installed before installing avast, how did you remove it?

Are you trying to run two A/V products at the same time?

Let us know so we can help you further.

...an expired McAfee AV...

Scythe944? Grin

Bishop,

This could probably be the reason.

Is it still installed? I presume you don't want it anymore...

Download the McAfee removal tool,
http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Uninstall McAfee from add/remove in the control panel
Run the removal tool

Repair avast! through the add/remove...

I think that should do it

This article provides the steps to remove SecurityCenter from your computer.
http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/faq3.asp?docid=71525
Also for direct download: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/VSCleanupTool.exe
and http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe (2007)

Sometimes, McAfee won't be completely removed if, before, you do not uninstall Avast, including the use of its "Uninstall Application" if necessary (www.avast.com/eng/faq-install-uninstall-avast.html).

Those conflicting AVs seem to have been the problem.

Thanks again!
